Bobcat runaway third quarter squashes Stars 82-59

Box Score POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The Oklahoma City Women's Basketball suffered its fifth straight loss on Monday night inside Keeter Gymnasium where the Bobcats pulled away with a 34 point third quarter for the comfortable victory over OCU.

STAT OF THE GAME: Four Stars freshman combined for 27 points with Akajia Handsom leading the way with her third double-digit scoring game of the season with 13 points followed behind Taryn Cottrell who put up nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, tying her season-high for threes in a game which came in the first contest of the season. 

FIRST QUARTER: Ozarks got off to a scorching start by jumping out to a 14-2 lead while holding Oklahoma City to just two points through the first five minutes. In the final four minutes of the opening quarter Akajia Handsom scored seven straight point for OCU after Raegan Travis scored the first four points for the Stars while the quarter ended with a 26-11 Bobcat lead. 

SECOND QUARTER: Oklahoma City turned up its defense in the second quarter holding College of the Ozarks to 12 points while Travis and Jerzie Bryant scored combined for eight of the 13 OCU points as the Stars put together a 7-0 run to cut the deficit back down to six. The Bobcats took a 38-24 advantage into the locker room after going on an 8-0 run behind two threes from Taylor Rush. 

THIRD QUARTER: The Bobcats came out of the half on fire with a 16-4 run out of the gate while continuing to grow its lead all the way up to 35 points while shooting 4-for-6 from deep as three Bobcats scored six points each. Ozarks put up 34 in the quarter, the most in a single quarter by a Stars opponent this season. 

FOURTH QUARTER: In the fourth, Oklahoma City continued to battle outscoring Ozarks 17-10 as Bryant led the way with four points while the freshman pairing of Taryn Cottrell and Brooke Curry swished in a three each. 

GAME NOTES
  • With its fifth straight loss, Oklahoma City moves to 5-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play. 
  • Raegan Travis scored her second-highest point total of the season tying a team-high of 13 points while tying Amaya Gordon for the team-high of eight rebounds. 
  • Jerzie Bryant put up eight points on 4-of-7 shooting as the sophomore grabbed five rebounds. 
  • Oklahoma City struggled from the free throw line going 9-for-18 from the stripe, shooting its lowest percentage of the year from the foul line. 
  • College of the Ozarks sweeps the season-series to go 2-0 over the Stars during its first season in the SAC after previously defeating the Stars back on Nov. 18 60-59. 
  • The loss allows Ozarks to take a 3-2 lead all-time over Oklahoma City dating back to the first meeting in 2012. 
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City will return home after its two-game road trip and take on Southwestern Christian on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2:00 PM inside Abe Lemons Arena.
