Bryant tabs season-high, Gordon breaks into 1,000 point club in Stars three-point victory

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Women's Basketball team escaped with a three-point victory over UNT-Dallas on Saturday inside Abe Lemons Arena headlined by Amaya Gordon breaking into the 1,000 point club.

STAR OF THE SHOW: Amaya Gordon put together another big day to lead Oklahoma City over UNT-Dallas while scoring 21 points on the day with 13 coming in the fourth quarter. Gordon surpassed 1,000 points in her three-year OCU career on Saturday bringing her total to 1,012.

STAT OF THE GAME: Oklahoma City cashed in a season-high 23 free throws on Saturday on a 74.3% clip from the line. The Stars surpassed its previous high of 19 which was set in the most recent game against Nelson. 

FIRST QUARTER: Oklahoma City had its highest scoring quarter of the day after breaking away with a 9-0 run while holding UNT-Dallas scoreless in the final five minutes of the quarter. Jerzie Bryant caught fire to close out the period with a layup and a three while Victoria Ososonya closed out the run on a layup with 10 seconds to go. 

SECOND QUARTER: Oklahoma City extended its lead all the way up to 14 as Brooke Curry cashed in her first three of the day. The Stars held onto its double-digit lead until 4:24 left to play when the Trailblazers began a 7-0 that was put to stop by another Curry three-pointer that helped keep the Stars ahead by at least six points through the end of the period. 

THIRD QUARTER: UNT-Dallas gave the game its first tie with 4:01 to play knotting up the score for the first time since it was 10-10 halfway through the first quarter. Oklahoma City went right back on top closing out the quarter on a 10-2 run as Bryant and Taryn Cottrell led the way for OCU combining for 10 of the 16 Stars points in the quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Cottrell started off the quarter with a three that led to be followed by 13 straight points scored by Amaya Gordon to help keep the Stars in front. The Trailblazers cut the deficit to one with seven seconds to go before Lauren Rowan was sent to the free throw line. Rowan cashed in both chances to make it a three-point game leading to a last-second chance for UNTD that missed giving the Stars a 74-71 victory. 

GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City wins three in a row for the first time this season moving to 8-11 overall and 8-7 in conference play. 
  • Jerzie Bryant collected a season-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Bryant went 2-for-3 from downtown making it the game of the year for the sophomore to cash in multiple threes while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line. 
  • Taryn Cottrell notched her second double-figure scoring day in the last three games with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds. 
  • Lauren Rowan joined Bryant as a perfect free throw shooter scoring all four of her points from the charity stripe. 
  • Oklahoma City sweeps the season-series over UNT-Dallas after previously defeating the Trailblazers 69-58 back on Nov. 16. 
  • Since first meeting in 2021 the Stars are 7-2 over UNT-Dallas winning four of the last five meetings against the Trailblazers. 
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City will gear up for its third game in five days facing off against John Brown on Monday night at 6:00 PM in Siloam Springs, Ark.
