WAXAHACHIE, Texas - The Oklahoma City Men's Basketball team suffered an 85-61 defeat inside the Sheaffer Center on Thursday night.

STAT OF THE GAME: Clayton Jewell notched his ninth double-double of the season on Thursday night with 10 points and 10 rebounds with boards coming on the offensive end. Jewell reached double-figures in scoring for the 12th time this season while hauling in double-digit rebounds for the 10th time.
FIRST HALF: Clayton Jewell scored the first four of six points for Oklahoma City to open the game before Nelson secured the lead once and for all after back-to-back threes by Preston Lawrence and CJ Hall. Another three raining down for the Lions helped push the Nelson lead to seven before a pair of free throws from Jack Mcwilliams and a jumper by Yorgio Goelsis cut the deficit to three with 10:32 to go. The momentum went right back into the Lions hands as Nelson strung together a 12-0 run over the next five minutes that was capped off by back-to-back triples from Micah Clark and Justin Collins to go out in front by 18. OCU brought the deficit back down to as little as 18 after a Golesis swish from beyond the arc which led to Nelson closing out the half on a 10-3 run to hold a 44-25 lead entering the halftime break. Nelson's hot shooting in the first half showed as the Lions went 18-for-32 (56.3%) from the field and 8-of-16 (50%) from three while Oklahoma City struggled getting its offense going with a 31% shooting clip from the field to go along with one made three on seven attempts. Â
SECOND HALF: Nelson held a lead of at least 16 points or more through the first 12 minutes of action in the second half before a 6-0 run from Oklahoma City put the Stars down 12. After two pairs of free throws from
Avery Jackson and
Brandon Wilson brought it to 13 while Golesis sank a jumper after trading buckets with Nelson to bring it down to 12 once again. With five minutes to go Nelson had one more push to put Oklahoma City away with an 18-3 run that gave the Lions its largest lead of the night at 27 points while holding OCU to just three points for over five minutes as the game concluded with
Lawrence Taylor Jr sinking the final shot from three to finish with an 85-61 decision in favor of the Lions. Â
GAME NOTES
- The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for OCU as the Stars move to 10-8 overall and 6-8 in SAC play.Â
- Oklahoma City shot 37.9% from the field with just three made three-pointers on the night going 3-for-17 from distance.
- Nelson lit up the field with a scorching 56.9% night while going 13-for-28 from three making it the 10th time this season an opponent has made double-digit threes against the Stars.Â
- Avery Jackson tied the game-high of 19 points while going 7-for-11 from the free throw line.
- Yorgio Golesis shot an efficient 5-for-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from three finishing with 14 points, two rebounds and one assist.Â
