Crom posts second straight hat trick as Stars sting Sterling 11-1

STERLING, Kan. - The Oklahoma City women's soccer team kept its unbeaten record alive with an 11-1 win on the road at Sterling behind hat tricks from Hallie Crom and Yami Ponce.

How it Happened 
Oklahoma City came out wasting no time by scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes coming from Hallie Crom who picked up where she left off on Tuesday along with two goals by Abby Russell. The Stars continued to go after the Sterling with three more makes over the next 12 minutes. Oklahoma City rattled off the first six goals of the game and took a 7-1 lead into the halftime break. Coming out of the half Crom netted another one just a minute into things before OCU wrapped up the second half with a total of four goals as Yami Ponce finished things off with her third goal of the afternoon in the 80th minute which put the match to bed in an 11-1 decision in favor of the Stars. 
 

Notes on the Game  

  • Oklahoma City scored its most goals since Aug. 30, 2022 coming against Randall in an 11-0 victory.
  • OCU begins its 2024 season 4-0 for the first time since 2021.
  • Hallie Crom and Yami Ponce both post hat tricks with three goals apiece being the first Stars duo to put up a hat trick in the same game since Sept. 16, 2021 when April Hill and Sofia Carvajal Granados each scored four goals in the 15-0 win over Bacone. 
  • Crom notches her second consecutive hat trick after scoring three goals on Tuesday against Bethany. Crom now holds the team-lead in goals scored with seven on the year after scoring six over the past two games. 
  • Sophomore Yami Ponce went without a goal in her freshman season however tonight Ponce caught fire scoring the first goal of her career in the 24th minute and finished with a hat trick on her third make in the 80th minute. 
  • Oklahoma City had four players with multiple goals and aside from Crom and Ponce's hat tricks, it was Abby Russell and Chloi Thurman who swished two goals apieice.
  • Russell's goals was her second and third of the season while also dishing out an assist to Crom's first goal. Russell now has a team-leading five assists and has either scored or assisted on a score in all four games this season.
  • For Chloi Thurman it was the second game she has scored in after putting one home in the season-opener at Jarvis Christian. Both of the freshman's goals came early on in the first half as Thurman knocked down back-to-back goals in the 12th and 17th minute of the match.
  • Reese Roberts came through with a second half goal before assisting on the next Stars goal which solidified Crom's hat trick. Saturday's game was the first time in Roberts career she has made a goal and an assist in the same contest. 
  • Saizlee Carlton led the game with two assists being the only Star to have more than one in the match. Saturday was Carlton's second career game with multiple assists as she did so on Sept. 8, 2022 against Bethel.
