How it Happened
OCU was tied with Our Lady of the Lake going into the locker room at halftime. Both teams tallied five shots, and one save while the Stars achieved one more corner kick than the Saints. Then in the 63rd minute of the second half Saizlee Carlton earned her first goal of the season by putting an unassisted strike into the back of the net to get the Stars on the board. The junior out of Amarillo tied her season high for shots in a single game (3).
Nearly 15 minutes after the Carlton goal, Leah Tapia of Our Lady of the Lake tied the game with an unassisted goal of her own. It seemed a draw was imminent with how evenly matched the two teams had been all evening, but junior Abby Russell had other ideas—the Midfielder out of League City, Texas scored in the 82nd minute. The goal by Russell proved to be the difference maker and the deciding scoring play that lifted the Stars over the Saints. The game-winning goal by the Stars' junior was the fourth of her career.
