How it Happened

The Stars first goal of the season took 25 minutes to score but once the first goal was scored, the floodgates opened. OCU scored three goals in three minutes after they settled into their season opener match against Bethany (Kan). Marco Alongi, the senior by way of Italy netted the first goal of the season for the Stars. Alongi's goal was followed by David Imbert scoring his first goal of the 2024 campaign, assisted by Henrique Duarte.

Almost immediately after OCU scored their second goal, they scored their third when Jovanny Nsonga put the ball in the back of the net on an assist from newcomer Thomas Brulay who hails from France. Brulay ended the contest with three assists. Senior Keita Kishino found himself in the scoring mix late in the first half.

Ruben Fayiha, the senior from Wales, sandwiched his two goals between halftime—the chemistry between him and Brulay evident with Fayiha netting both scores on an assist from Brulay. The scoring continued as Alongi tallied his second unassisted goal of the match. Late in the second half another Duarte brother (Bernando) recorded an assist on Hannan Ashraf's goal in the 71st minute.

Notes on the Game

  • Oklahoma City took 37 shots with 14 coming on goal while Bethany took six shots with only two that came on goal.

  • Marco Alongi and Ruben Fayiha both had strong performances as each of them scored two goals during Tuesday night's match. Fayiha was with the Stars last season but did not participate, his debut against Bethany to start the 2024 season was a solid outing.

  • Another Star making his Debut was freshman, Hannah Ashraf from Edmond, Oklahoma. Ashraf scored his first OCU goal in the 71st minute of play which made it an 8-0 game late in the second half.

  • Tuesday's match was the eighth all-time meeting between the two squads and the Stars remain undefeated against Bethany. Tonight's game was the second time OCU has shut out Bethany and is also the largest margin of victory in the series history after Oklahoma City beat Bethany 4-0 last year, 4-1 the year before that, and 2-1 during a match decided in OT in 2021.
