Softball wraps up regular season SAC title with 29th consecutive win

WAXAHACHIE, Texas - The Oklahoma City Stars softball team closed out the 2024 regular season with yet another sweep this time coming on the road at SAGU.

Oklahoma City fell behind a run after one inning of play and opened the game with two scoreless frame. 

The Stars burst onto the scene in the top of the third by getting three of its four runs across on back-to-back base hits by Kamryn Garvie and Baileigh Loux as Garvie drove in Tiffany Paul first followed with Loux knocking in two runs in Rally Radacy and Kaitlyn Jones

OCU got only one more run across coming in the seventh off the bat of Emersen Heron which scored Jones for the second time. 

The Lions scored their first run of the series coming in the opening frame however SAGU was unable to get anymore as Shelbey Cornelson shutdown the Lions for the rest of the way allowing just two hits in the final six innings. Cornelson earned the win and finished the season with a 21-2 record, a career-best 1.16 ERA and struck out 169 batters in 132.1 innings pitched. 

Kaitlyn Jones and Kamryn Garvie were the two Stars to achieve multiple base hits as Jones went 2-for-4 with two of the four OCU runs scored to go along with a stolen base. 

Garvie became responsible as one to drive in the Stars first run of the game and get the three-run inning started as the senior first basemen put together a 2-for-4 game with her 60th RBI of the season, tying a team-high. 

Baileigh Loux extended a 10-game hitting streak her two run base hit in the third inning as Loux completed her 14th game this season with multiple RBIs. 

Oklahoma City scored its four runs on 10 hits while committing one error. Southwestern Assemblies of God collected five hits while getting just one run coming in the first inning.

With the win, Oklahoma City finishes the regular season with a 48-2 record overall with a 35-1 record in SAC play. 

Iliana Ashford got her big day started driving in the first run of the game for OCU as Rally Radacy followed up with a single to right field to bring home Ashford and give the Stars a 2-0 advantage in the second inning. 

Oklahoma City plated multiple runs across in the final three innings as seven different Stars came up with an RBI. 

Emersen Heron came up with the win finishing the year with a perfect 22-0 record after allowing one run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts and completes the regular season with a 0.91 ERA.

Two freshman in Iliana Ashford and Tara Hoehner went perfect at the plate as Hoehner put together a 4-for-4 game with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Ashford notched her second three hit game of the season with the previous one coming on Mar. 11 against Mid America Christian. Ashford drove in two runs with one coming in the second and the other in the sixth while tying a season-high of three runs scored. 
 
Oklahoma City secured its 12th Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title. The Stars have locked up the number one seed in this year's Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament May 2-4.
