Softball cruises with a pair of wins on day one of SAC Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City softball team collected a pair of blow out victories on Friday by defeating SAGU in the tournament opener 12-0 before blowing out Southwestern Christian in the final game of the night 16-1 at Ann Lacy.Stadium on day one of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

Game Summary

The Oklahoma City Stars nabbed two big wins on Friday, running away with a pair of blow out victories by a combined score of 28-1.

In Game one, Oklahoma City opened up with a nine run first frame ignited by a two-run homer from senior first basemen Kamryn Garvie. OCU sent 13 batters to the plate as Kaitlyn Jones, Tara Hoehner and Emersen Heron joined Garvie with an extra base hit each in the first inning of play.

The Stars added three more in the fourth on two hits while taking advantage of two SAGU errors leading to Rally Radacy driving in Iliana Ashford for the 12th and final run for OCU.

In Game two, Oklahoma City got on the board in the second inning as Tiffany Paul used a sac fly to bring home the games first run. Kamryn Garvie highlighted the inning with a bases clearing double before coming across to score on a Baileigh Loux single down the right field line.

 The Stars scored four in the third with two home runs coming from freshman Tara Hoehner and senior Kaitlyn Jones before proceeding to its biggest frame of the night with seven runs in the fourth as Paul and Jones drove in two runs each to help OCU out to its 16-1 win in game two on Friday night. 

Game Notes

-Oklahoma City opened up SAC Tournament play with two wins at Ann Lacy Stadium remaining unbeaten on its home field while moving its winning streak to 31 games in a row.

-Kamryn Garvie put together a massive day at the plate with seven RBI between both games. Garvie blasted her team-leading 14th home run of the year in game one while also picking up her 15th double of the season in game two.

-Despite going hitless in game one, Baileigh Loux went 4-for-4 at the plate in game two, the third time she has been perfect at the plate this season. Loux collected a season-high four hits with two RBI and came across to score for the third straight game.

-Kaitlyn Jones combined for a 6-for-8 day at the plate with multiple hits coming in each game as Jones rattled off six total RBI between the two games including four of them coming against SCU. 

-Rally Radacy tied Jones for the game-high in hits in game one with three while driving in two RBI and coming across to score. Radacy scored three more times in game two extending her scoring streak to five games in a row.

-Freshman Tara Hoehner combined for a 5-for-6 day at the plate including a perfect 3-for-3 game against Southwestern Christian. Hoehner added two doubles in game one while launching her ninth home run in game two while extending hitting streak to six games where she has scored multiple runs in three straight games. 

-Iliana Ashford went 2-for-2 in game one including tying a season-high three runs scored while stealing two bases.

-Emersen Heron tabbed her 22nd double of the season and fourth triple in game one while also getting it done inside the circle with her 23rd win of the year, sustaining a perfect record after holding the Lions without a run on two hits to go along with three strikeouts. 

-Shelbey Cornelson made the start in game two improving to 22-2 on the year after picking up the win allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight.


Next Up

Oklahoma City is back in action on Saturday, May 4 where it will take on the winner of Southwestern Christian and Wayland Baptist for a trip to go to the championship game. The game will begin at 3 p.m. at Ann Lacy Stadium.
