Stars clinch undefeated home record after sweep over Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule with an undefeated record at Ann Lacy Stadium for the first time since 2017 as the Stars earn the sweep over Texas Wesleyan.

With the win, OCU sees its winning streak move to 24 straight games while seeing its record go to 43-2 overall and 31-1 in SAC play. For Texas Wesleyan, the Rams suffer their third loss in a row and move to 20-23 and 13-18 in conference play. 

Oklahoma City got off to fast start in the first inning with three straight doubles to open the game as Amy Crabaugh drove in the final run of the inning with the Stars fourth double of the frame.

After going without a run in the second, OCU exploded for a seven-run inning in the third as Crabaugh got the first run home with her second double of the game and seventh of the season.

Grace Pollon collected two RBIs on a base hit up the middle that scored Crabaugh and Tara Hoehner after Hoehner singled to right field earlier in the inning.

Oklahoma City scored its next three runs supplied by the top three hitters in the order as Rally Radacy drove in Pollon with a single before back-to-back doubles by Kamryn Garvie and Kaitlyn Jones put the Stars out in front 11-0. 

The Rams picked up their first two runs of the series in the top of the fourth inning whereas OCU countered in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Mallory McCoy that brought in Emersen Heron for the games final run. 

Oklahoma City scored 12 runs on 12 hits while Texas Wesleyan scored twice on six hits while committing one error.

The Stars tied a season-high of eight doubles as Crabaugh, Jones and Garvie tallied two doubles apiece. 

Amy Crabaugh led the way with three RBIs on a multi-hit day getting her to 24 runs batted in on the season.

Oklahoma City got strong work out of the top of its order as the first three hitters in Rally Radacy, Kaitlyn Jones and Kamryn Garvie all came up with multiple base hits while combining for five RBIs, five runs scored and five doubles. 

Emersen Heron made the start inside the circle for OCU in the third game of the series and earned her 20th win of the year maintaining her perfect record inside the circle as Heron allowed two runs on on six hits with a walk and a strikeout in four innings pitched. 

Brynlee Alsip came on to finish the game in the fifth making her ninth appearance this season. Alsip sat down the Rams in order with back-to-back groundouts and a strikeout to close out the game.

The win marked the 22nd run rule victory the Stars have picked up this season and was the 10th consecutive run rule Oklahoma City has clinched.


Oklahoma City 6 - Texas Wesleyan 0 

With the win, Oklahoma City earns its 25th straight victory as its record improves to 44-2 overall and 32-1 in SAC play. Texas Wesleyan surrenders a series sweep for the first time since falling in all four to USAO in the first week of April as the Rams record goes to  20-24 while going 13-19 in conference play.

Oklahoma City scored its least amount of runs in the series in game four with six coming across as the Stars opened with a two runs in the first on a Baileigh Loux bunt for a base hit that got two runs in for OCU. 

The two runs in the first meant OCU has scored in the first inning in each game of the series and it remained a 2-0 ball game.

In the third, OCU got its first run in on a bases loaded walk as freshman Tara Hoehner drove in the next run with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Kaitlyn Jones. 

Tiffany Paul put the game to rest with a two-out, two-RBI double to the left field wall that brought in Loux and Emersen Heron to give the Stars a six run lead that they held on too for the rest of the way. 

Oklahoma City scored its six runs on just four hits and one defensive miscue while holding the Rams scoreless on three hits to go along with two errors.  

Shelbey Cornelson threw her final regular season game on the home field and dealt a four inning shutout allowing just two hits with a walk and four strikeouts. 

Tiffany Paul became the only Star to come up with multiple base hits in the series finale while also leading the way with two RBIs, bringing her season total to 36 while picking up her fifth double of the season.

Baileigh Loux and Emersen Heron collected the other two hits for OCU as each of them posted an RBI while Hoehner also claimed an RBI on a bases loaded walk 

The Stars wrapped up its regular season home schedule on Friday with one series to go before postseason play. Oklahoma City finish the year 22-0 at Ann Lacy Stadium, going undefeated at home for the first time since 2017. 

OCU will travel to Waxahachie, Texas next weekend to finish up the regular season taking on Southwestern Assemblies of God happening Apr. 26-27.
