Stars pitching shines in a pair of 7-2 victories over Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY - The OCU baseball team earned a pair of 7-2 wins over Texas Wesleyan as both starters Kade Shatwell and Andrew Limbaugh go the distance as Barrett Daniel goes yard in both games.

The pitching for both sides shined in the early part of game number one as there was only four hits total through four innings of play. 

Oklahoma City broke the drought in the bottom of the fifth as Tristan Williams delivered a lead off double and came around to score on a Noah Kang suicide squeeze play. 

Aiden Alexander provided the second run of the inning by bringing in Aiden Van Rensum with a base hit through the left side.

The Stars saw their biggest inning come in the sixth by sending eight batters to the plate and rattled off five runs in the frame. Van Rensum started the rally with a two run single to right center before the bright spot of the inning came with a pinch hit two-run home run for Barrett Daniel. 

Kade Shatwell was on his game going the distance for the first time this season while allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out two. 

Trent Kiraly extended his hitting streak to 13 games by going 2-for-3 with a run scored for the sixth straight game. 

Barrett Daniel supplied the games only home run with his fourth of the season in the pinch hit spot. 

Aiden Van Rensum joined Kiraly as the only other Star with multiple hits having a big 2-for-3 game with two RBIs for the second consecutive game and two runs scored. 


Oklahoma City 7 - Texas Wesleyan 2

The two squads got on the board in the third inning as TJ Tomlinson gave the Rams their first lead all day with an RBI single to left. 

Reece Ratchford came right back at Texas Wesleyan tying the game with a double to right center that scored Aiden Alexader from second base. 

Once again OCU blew up the game contest with another five run inning coming in the fifth highlighted by the long ball from Trent Kiraly and Barrett Daniel. 

Ratchford finished things out in the bottom of the sixth with his second RBI of the day with a single to right resulting in the seventh run of the game for the Stars to wrap up another 7-2 victory. 

Trent Kiraly matched his 2023 home run total with his 15th coming in the bottom of the fifth which ties for third in the NAIA. Kiraly extended his hitting streak to 14 games while picking up three RBIs in the contest. 

Chad Pike and Aiden Alexander joined Ratchford in the two hit category with both of them tabbing a double each while Alexander scored twice.

Despite going without a hit, Darian Duhon scored for the seventh straight game bringing his team-high total to 34 runs on the year. 

Aiden Van Rensum put together his third straight two hit game while also scoring for the third game in a row. 

Andrew Limbaugh got the start for OCU in game two and put together his second straight quality start by throwing his first complete game of the year while allowing two runs on three hits while striking out seven. In his last two starts, Limbaugh has allowed just three runs on five hits and combined for 17 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched. 

With the win, OCU moves to 35-12 over Texas Wesleyan winning its last three against the Rams. 

Oklahoma City wins its second straight series and will look to go for back-to-back sweeps tomorrow.

OCU will go for the series sweep on Saturday at 1 PM after a special field dedication ceremony happening at 12:05 PM.
