OKLAHOMA CITY – The OCU softball team competed in the Red Dirt Classic over the weekend and picked up three wins out of four games played suffering its first loss of the season to Our Lady of the Lake.
#9 Oklahoma City 18 – Harris-Stowe 0
OCU sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning while scoring six runs to open the game as the Stars scored just one of its six runs by way of an RBI by Baileigh Loux.
In the second, Oklahoma City put the game to rest by scoring 12 runs, its most in an inning this season as this time 17 batters came to the plate. Freshman Tara Hoehner batted in three runs in two at-bats during the innings to help OCU run away with an 18-0 victory.
Six Stars collected multiple base hits as Freshman Kindalyn Miller put together a 3-for-3 game while Bailiegh Loux also tabbed three hits as well as three runs scored while knocking in a pair of runs.
Emersen Heron and Brynlee Alsip shared the pitching duties and combined for a no-hitter while Alsip led with eight strikeouts in three innings of work.
#7 Our Lady of the Lake 4 – #9 Oklahoma City 1
The biggest game of the classic went down in the nightcap on Friday in a battle between two top 10 teams. Both squads scored in the first inning as Kamryn Garvie got things going with an RBI single to score Kaitlyn Jones.
After the Saints nodded things up the Stars were held scoreless for the rest of the way as OCU was limited to just two hits in the game coming from Garvie and Tiffany Paul.
Our Lady of the Lake took the lead in the fifth with three runs crossing the plate to take a 4-1 lead which put OCU away for the first time this season.
Oklahoma City had just three base runners after Garvie and Paul went 1-for-2 each while Kaitlyn Jones drew a walk to get on. Oklahoma City was held to a season-low in hits and runs while Shelbey Cornelson took her first loss of the year while giving up four runs, one being earned on four hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
#9 Oklahoma City 4 – Bethel 1
OCU bounced back in game three against Bethel College as Rally Radacy got things started in the top of the third with an RBI single through the left side that brought in Kaitlyn Jones for the first run of the ball game.
In the fourth, Baileigh Loux delivered her second home run of the year with a solo shot over the center field wall to put the Stars up 2-0.
The Threshers were able to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the fourth before OCU broke things open in the sixth as Kamryn Garvie launched the game's second home run to open the inning before Tiffany Paul used a sacrifice fly to bring in Grace Pollon for the final run of the game.
Shelbey Cornelson also bounced back strongly by tossing her fifth complete game of the season moving to 6-1 inside the circle. The senior allowed one run on four hits without allowing a walk and struck out a season-high 11 batters.
Kamryn Garvie saw a 1-for-4 day delivering the clutch home run in the sixth inning, her fourth long ball of the season.
Rally Radacy and Baileigh Loux were the only two hitters in the lineup to tally multiple hits as Radacy went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
#9 Oklahoma City 14 – Harris-Stowe 1
Oklahoma City matched up with Harris-Stowe for the second time this season to wrap up the Red Dirt Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Stars scored a run in every inning they came to the plate while hitting two home runs on the day coming from Baileigh Loux and Tiffany Paul.
Loux went deep for the second straight game after going 3-for-4 with five RBIs hitting her third home run of the season. Paul hit her second home run of the season while going 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Kaitlyn Jones had a solid game at the plate going 2-for-3 with her first triple of the year while driving in a run and scoring twice.
Emersen Hernon started inside the circle and went all five innings allowing just one run which was unearned on just one hit with four strikeouts.
What's Next
Oklahoma City will begin conference play next weekend at Ann Lacy Stadium as the Stars will host MId-America Christian for a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday.
