Game Recap: Softball |

Stars slide past Eagles in Tuesday's doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – The OCU softball team grabbed a pair of victories on Tuesday over Southwestern Christian in a run-rule 10-0 rout in game one followed by a tight contest in game two squeaking out a 4-2 victory.

Oklahoma City 10 – Southwestern Christian 0

The Stars got going early as Baileigh Loux put OCU on the board first with a two-RBI triple to right center, her second of the year.

Emersen Heron followed Loux's at-bat with a groundout to second for the third run of the inning.

Oklahoma City strung together an even bigger inning in the second putting up six runs on four hits while batting around in the order.

Amy Crabaugh got the bats going by staying hot at the plate with her third double of the year to lead off the inning.

OCU began to rally behind an RBI single by Iliana Ashford and a two-run double by Kaitlyn Jones. Loux had more left in the tank by driving a three-run homer over the centerfield wall to go up 9-0.

The Stars added one more in the bottom of the fourth as an error by the SCU shortstop allowed Loux to score for the third time in the game.

Loux finished her day going 2-for-3 with a home run, triple, five RBIs and three runs scored, taking the team lead in home runs with her seventh of the season.

Kaitlyn Jones carried over her incredible performance on Sunday into Tuesday's game by adding two more hits while scoring twice with two RBIs.

Shelbey Cornelson got the start in game one and tossed her ninth complete game of the year and earned her 10th win inside the circle by allowing three hits with just one walk and six strikeouts.

Oklahoma City 4 – Southwestern Christian 2

Game two started in a different manner than game one did as the game did not see its first run until the fourth inning. Tara Hoehner gave the Stars the lead with her fourth home run of the season to go up 1-0.

Southwestern Christian had its opportunities to score multiple times as the Eagles stranded runners on second and third on two separate occasions where Emersen Heron was able to work out of both jams without a run crossing.

While the Stars bats continued to stay in check, SCU tied the game in the sixth with a Shakyra Gladness double to center that scored Madison Jones for the Eagles first run of the game.

Gladness was able to make her way to third on a wild pitch as she represented the go-ahead run but Heron got out of the inning by striking out Addison Hanna with little damage done

All tied up 1-1, Oklahoma City rattled off three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Kamryn Garvie drove in Kaitlyn Jones to take the lead.

The inning continued as Hoehner drove in Garvie on a groundball to shortstop for her second RBI of the day. Amy Crabaugh followed that up with an RBI single to shallow left field that brought in Baileigh Loux from third.

Amy Crabaugh's bat stayed hot in game two, being the only Star with multiple hits while extending her hitting streak to six games.

Baileigh Loux extended her hitting streak to seven games with a lone base hit while scoring for the seventh straight time out.

Kaitlyn Jones carried over her four-hit game on Sunday against USAO into today as Jones went 1-for-2 with a run scored to give her eight games in a row with a base hit.

Emersen Heron stayed perfect inside the circle moving to 10-0 on the season with the win. Heron threw six innings while giving up one run on six hits before Brynlee Alsip came in for her first save of the season.

With the win, Oklahoma City moves to 27-0 since 2017 against Southwestern Christian.
