Softball takes three of four from No. 2 USAO in weekends top five showdown

CHICKASHA, OKLA. - The Oklahoma City softball team took three out of four in the top five showdowns over the weekend over number two Science & Arts. 

Science & Arts 5 – Oklahoma City 4 

Through three and a half innings played, neither team got a run across in a battle between two juggernaut pitchers going at it. Science & Arts struck first in the bottom of the third and was ignited by a solo home run which started the three-run Drover inning.  

Oklahoma City went scoreless until the sixth when Emersen Heron came up clutch with a three-run homer to dead center that tied the game.  

After USAO took the lead in the bottom frame, OCU came right back in the top half of the seventh as Rally Radacy drove in the tying run in Iliana Ashford

Science & Arts got the best of the Stars in the bottom of the seventh inning walking it off with a single to left to win the game 5-4. 

Emersen Heron became the only Stars with multiple base hits after going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. 

Rally Radacy drove in her 14th RBI of the season after putting together a 1-for-3 game. 

Shelbey Cornelson suffered the loss in 6.2 innings pitched after allowing five runs on 10 hits while striking out eight. 

Oklahoma City 4 – Science & Arts 1 

The Stars bounced back in game two after opening the contest with four unanswered runs through five and a half before USAO scored its only run in the sixth.  

The top five hitters in the OCU lineup tabbed a base hit while Kamryn Garvie drove in a pair of runs while scoring once.  

Mallory McCoy strung together a 1-for-4 for the game with an RBI after driving in Tara Hoehner in the sixth inning of play.  

Emersen Heron remained unbeaten inside the circle after throwing her sixth complete game of the season. Heron also made her impact at the plate with an RBI in the top of the third inning. 

Amy Crabaugh and Rally Radacy had the Stars only two extra-base hits while Radacy scored twice, and Crabaugh earned her first triple of the season. 

Oklahoma City 4 – Science & Arts 2 

Kamryn Garvie started game three with a bang by hitting her sixth home run of the season making her tied for the lead.  

After USAO tied the game at two in the third, both sides went scoreless until the final inning of play.  

In the top of the seventh, the Stars broke through with back-to-back RBI doubles by Baileigh Loux and Emersen Heron which led to the 4-2 win. 

Baileigh Loux had the only two-hit game for OCU after adding her team-leading 10th double to her line while scoring a run in her 2-for-3 game.  

Shelbey Cornelson got back on the winning side of things after throwing her eighth complete game of the year while allowing two runs on three hits and striking out six to move to 9-2 inside the circle in 2024.  


Oklahoma City 9 – Science & Arts 2 

Being knotted up 1-1 entering the third, Oklahoma City took and secured control of the game rattling off eight unanswered runs by scoring in four straight innings. 

Oklahoma City freshman Tara Hoehner helped lead the way with her third home run of the year after going 2-for-3 with a season-high five RBIs and a double.  

Kaitlyn Jones tabbed a career-high for hits in a single game after going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. 

Rally Radacy went 3-for-4 with three runs scored bringing her season run total to a team-leading 31.  

The nine runs and 16 hits by the Stars were the most USAO has allowed this season while Oklahoma City tied its second-highest hit total this year.  

Oklahoma City wrapped up the top-five showdown with three straight wins to take the series. 

What's Next  

Oklahoma City will return home for a pair of midweek doubleheaders against Southwestern Christian on Tuesday and Thursday starting a 2 PM each day.
