Boulanger and Jolley lead OCU in Washburn Open

TOPEKA, KAN. — The Oklahoma City Stars men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up a solid weekend of action at the Washburn University Open on Saturday (Feb. 3). 

David Boulanger headlined Oklahoma City as its best finisher on the men's side as he finished third in the 3000 meter with a time of 8:32.93 which is an NAIA B Standard time. Boulanger also helped the Stars to a second-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay as the four-man squad of Boulanger, Kanyon Cobbs, Tate Smithhart, and Brendan Robeaux came in with a time of 10.10.96  

Robeaux and Smithhart also solidified top 10 finishes in the 800-meter race as Robeaux notched a fifth-place finish coming in at a time of 1:53.97 while Smithhart finished three spots behind in eighth place with a time of 1:54.87. 

Finally rounding out a solid day on the men's side was freshman Ethan Vandevier claiming runner-up in the high jump competition with a second-best mark of 1.95m. 

On the women's side, Cailen Jolley paced the Stars with a fourth-best finish in the mile coming in with an NAIA B Standard time of 5:06:55. Jolley also was a part of a third-place mark in the Distance Medley Relay along with Vanessa PerezIsabelle Spiller, and Louise Cocking coming in with a time of 12:12.32. 

Cocking also found success in the 3000-meter race solidifying a fourth-place spot at 10:23.17. 

On the field side, Daryn Batts led the Stars in two separate events as the senior finished 13th overall in the shot put with a distance of 41' 9.75" and followed that up with a 17th place slot in the throw competition with a mark of 14.23m and a distance of 46' 8.25". 

Oklahoma City will go and compete in two different places this upcoming weekend as part of the squad will head to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., while others will go and compete in the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan.
