Stars fly by Falcons

Loux extends hitting streak to eight games

OKLAHOMA CITY – The OCU softball team picked up a pair of wins over Friends University on Wednesday after Baileigh Loux and Tiffany Paul each homered for the first time this season.  

Oklahoma City 6, Friends 2

HOW IT HAPPENED       

Oklahoma City (7-0) rattled off two base hits to open the game by Kaitlyn Jones and Rally Radacy. With two on and one out, Baileigh Loux went yard for the first time this season putting the Stars up 3-0 

Friends (4-3) put a run on the board in the next inning with a solo shot by Riley Wertz. OCU got right back at the Falcons in the next following frame as the top two hitters in the Stars lineup delivered yet again with Jones slashing a double for Radacy to drive her in with a single to center.  

OCU scored its final two runs in the top of the fifth as Emersen Heron provided a two-RBI base knock to center to bring home both Loux and Radacy to take a 6-1 lead.  

The Falcons plated one more run in the last inning of play on another home run coming from Becca Dunn, but it was too little too late for Friends as Oklahoma City held on to the 6-2 advantage for a win in game one.  

GAME NOTES       

  • Oklahoma City moved to 7-0 on the season after earning its second-highest hit total of the season with 13. 
  • Shelbey Cornelson tossed what is already her third complete game and marked her fourth win of the year after striking out a season-high eight batters.  
  • Baileigh Loux saw a big day at the plate by launching her first home run of the season while having a multi-hit game for the fifth time in eight games.  
  • Kaitlyn Jones totaled the most hits for the Stars in game one by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.  
  • Freshman Tara Hoehner extended her hitting streak to five games making it five consecutive games with multiple base hits. 
  • The six runs were made up of three Stars who scored twice each which included Loux, Jones, and Rally Radacy who also went 2-for-3 with an RBI. 
  • The Stars had four players with multiple hits while eight of them reached base.

HOW IT HAPPENED       

This time it was Friends (4-4) cracking the scoreboard first by putting up three runs on three straight at-bats. 

Oklahoma City (8-0) scored six unanswered runs over the next three innings, scoring two runs in each frame. Grace Pollon got the Stars going in the top of the second inning driving in two runs with a single to centerfield.  

Baleigh Loux and Tara Hoehner delivered for OCU in the third inning as Loux drove in Radacy to take a 3-2 lead. Two batters later Hoehner used a sacrifice fly to bring home Loux giving the Stars a 4-2 advantage.  

In the fourth, Kaitlyn Jones added two RBIs with a bunt single which led to a Friends miscue giving OCU two more runs.  

Oklahoma City added one more run with a Tiffany Paul homer giving the Stars a four-run lead and winning game two 7-3. 

GAME NOTES       

  • Emersen Heron saw strong days at the plate and inside the circle while earning her first three-hit game of the season and tossing a complete game while shutting out the Falcons in the final six innings.  
  • Baleigh Loux extended her hitting streak to eight games after going 1-for-4 and hitting a run for the fourth consecutive game. 
  • Tiffany Paul was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with two runs scored while going yard for the first time this season.  
  • Kaitlyn Jones added two more hits in game two to help finish her two-game series against the Falcons at 5-for-8. 
  • Grace Pollon drove in a pair of runs to go along with her 1-for-3 game. 
  • With the win, Oklahoma City moved the all-time series record to 12-0 against Friends dating back to 2011.  

WHAT'S NEXT  

Oklahoma City is back at home for a weekend series against Central Christian with a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 23 at 2 & 4 PM followed by two more on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 12 & 2 PM.
