FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The Oklahoma City men's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday night as the sturdy Rams defense held OCU just 1-of-18 from three allowing just 53 points from the Stars.
Oklahoma City (8-17, 6-13 SAC) saw just two of its players score in double-figures as Avery Jackson led the way with 15 points, inching closer to the 1000-point mark being 70 points away in just his second season of collegiate basketball.
The score remained close throughout the first half as Texas Wesleyan (11-14, 9-10 SAC) took as large as a six-point lead in 20 minutes of play as OCU's most recent lead came after a Parker Jones jumper to lead 5-4.
Once Avery Jackson cut the OCU deficit back down to five with 16:12 on the clock the Rams ran away with a 12-2 run holding the Stars scoreless for over three minutes and saw their largest lead of the game up to this point of 51-36 with 12:04 remaining.
Oklahoma City failed to come within single digits for the rest of the way as Texas Wesleyan allowed OCU to score just 13 points in the final 10 minutes and earn a 73-52 win over the Stars on Thursday night.
OCU struggled from deep on the night making just one three-pointer on 18 attempts, its lowest in three-point makes all season. Freshman Clayton Jewell delivered the one three-pointer for OCU as the Australian native joined Jackson as the only other Star to reach double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.
Senior Brandon Jackson followed behind with nine points, snapping his streak of five straight games in double-digit scoring. Jackson led the team in rebounds with seven while going 1-of-2 from the line.
Texas Wesleyan saw five guys score in double figures to lead the charge for the Rams as the home team shot 46 percent (23-50) from the field and 50 percent (7-14) from three-point range.
Despite having just seven turnovers to the Rams 14, Texas Wesleyan used its strong defensive ability to block six shots with four of the swats coming from Kris Layfette.
Oklahoma City suffers a season sweep to the Rams after Texas Wesleyan defeated the Stars back on Jan. 20, 79-71.
OCU will return home on Saturday, needing a win to keep its conference tournament hopes alive as the Stars host USAO inside Abe Lemons Arena at 3:45 PM.
