Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Last second shot hands OCU a 59-56 loss to UNT-Dallas

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City women's basketball team suffered its fourth straight setback to UNT-Dallas on Saturday afternoon in a tight battle for 40 minutes of play where the Trailblazers prevailed with a last-second three-pointer to take down OCU 59-56.

UNT-Dallas opened the game with an 8-0 lead but the Stars crawled back near the end of the first quarter with a 10-5 run as Ray Osborn scored 10 points in 10 minutes.

After holding the Trailblazers to just five points in the second quarter on a 2-of-12 shooting, Oklahoma City took a 28-24 lead into the break as Osborn cashed a jump with 10 seconds to go just before the buzzer sounded.

OCU took its largest lead of the game at 43-28 at the 3:30 mark of the third quarter as it was Amaya Gordon this time scoring 10 points in the 10 minutes closing out the third quarter with a 10-point lead.

The Stars lead began to shrink in the final quarter as OCU went on a four-and-a-half-minute scoring drought to allow the Trailblazers to tie the game at 51 apiece. With the game tied again 56-56, the final possession was in the hands of UNT-Dallas after Gordon sank a pair of clutch free throws to tie the game.

The Trailblazers made their way down the floor the final seconds ticking down as Kayla James found an open Mya Bills in the right corner for the game-winner with just two seconds to spare.

Amaya Gordon led the way with a game-high 24 points marking her ninth consecutive game to score in double figures. Gordon played a ferocious role on the defensive end after adding a career-high four blocks in Saturday's contest.

Coming off a 20-point game, Ray Osborn put together another big scoring day with 18 points as the Stars only other double-digit scorer.

Despite scoring only seven points and fouling out of the game, Cacie Gorman set a career-high of 15 rebounds as the senior also contributed with five blocks.

Oklahoma City will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 PM on the road at Texas Wesleyan.
