FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The Oklahoma City women's basketball team held a lead midway through the fourth quarter but fell victim to a late Texas Wesleyan run as the Rams ran away to a 68-63 win on Thursday night.
Tied up at 53 all with just under four minutes to play as Texas Wesleyan (12-13, 8-11 SAC) needed an 8-1 run over the next two minutes to separate themselves down the stretch in the fourth quarter to help scratch its way to a 68-63 win and overcome just a 10-point third quarter. The Stars (6-19, 5-14 SAC) dropped their fifth straight decision with the loss.
Jazmin Adams and
Amaya Gordon posted big nights for OCU being the only two double-digit scorers with each dropping 20-plus points.
Gordon led the way with a game-high 24 points for the second time in a row while grabbing seven rebounds. Gordon reaches double-figures in scoring for the 10th consecutive game.
Adams, however, displayed a career night for her freshman campaign with highs of 20 points and 17 rebounds in her first game back on the floor since Jan. 25 while making the very first start of her career.
Despite being held to just three points
Cacie Gorman hauled in double-digit rebounds for the fourth consecutive game with 11 as the conference-leading shot-blocker added two more swats to her line on Thursday. Senior counterpart
Ray Osborn shot 3-of-6 from the field while scoring nine points and going 2-for-2 from the line.
The Stars outshot Texas Wesleyan by shooting 41.3 percent from the floor (26-63) and connected on five 3-pointers in the contest with two coming from Adams, two from Annalynn Bohner, and one from Osborn, but Oklahoma City committed 17 costly turnovers compared to just eight giveaways by the Rams.
The Stars will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 17) by hosting Science & Arts inside Abe Lemons Arena at 2 PM.
