Five Stars reach double-figures, OCU prevails 84-77

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Oklahoma City men's basketball went on the road and came home remaining unbeaten as the Stars finish off non-conference play with an 84-77 victory over Bethel College on Wednesday night.

Clayton Jewell - 23 PTS, 11 REB

STAT OF THE GAME: Oklahoma City tied a season-high 18 assists on the night as three Stars had four or more while Yorgio Golesis led the way with five. 

STAR OF THE SHOW:
Clayton Jewell notched his second double-double of the season with a career-high 23 points while hauling in double-digit rebounds for the third consecutive game with a total of 11. 

FIRST HALF: Through the first 17 minutes of the half neither side could get more than a five point lead before a Stars 7-1 run extended its lead all the up to eight while Clayton Jewell nailed a three and went 1-of-2 from the line as Brandon Wilson and James Cloud added baskets in the paint for OCU. Bethel worked its way back in to it as Harper Jonas knocked down a pair of threes to help his team trail by just three at the break. 

SECOND HALF: Right out of the locker room Oklahoma City went off on a 10-2 run as Jewell continued to light it up. 10 minutes into the second half Oklahoma City worked its way to the biggest lead of the night at 22 after Brandon Wilson cashed in on two of his three triples in the ball game while Avery Jackson and Jack McWilliams contributed as well. Bethel continued to fight getting back into it and cutting it down to single digits with 1:53 to go. Bethel creeped up to trail by just four with 25 seconds left before Jackson and Wilson closed things down with a pair of free throws each as the Stars held on to an 84-77 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City remains unbeaten at 4-0 as the Stars pick up their only road non-conference game having its best record through the first games since 2017.
  • Brandon Wilson strung together his best game as a Star with a season-best 19 points and 11 rebounds while giving him his second double-double of the season.
  • Avery Jackson hauled in a season-high six rebounds as Stars junior gurd tallied 15 points on 4-of-10 shooting. 
  • Jack McWilliams saw season-highs in points with 11 and in minutes played with 15. McWilliams shot 4-for-7 form the field while his two rebounds came on the offensive end.
  • Yorgio Golesis never came off the floor for OCU as the sophomore racked up 10 points to go along with five assists and two steals. 
  • James Cloud filled up the statsheet with six points and six rebounds while having a season-high two blocks on the night. 
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City will get the week off and return to action inside its home building on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 PM against Nelson.
