Alongi's hat trick sends Stars to Round of 16

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Men's Soccer team gutted out another victory in the first NAIA National Tournament appearance since 2008 in a 3-2 double-overtime contest with Marian.

Oklahoma City 3, Marian 2 (2OT)

Goals
'23 - Marco Alongi; Assisted by Bernardo Duarte
'59 - Marco Alongi; Assisted by Lorenzo Nardini
'104 - Marco Alongi; Assisted by David Imbert

How it Happened
David Imbert and Bernardo Duarte took the first two shot attempts for Oklahoma City before Marco Alongi struck gold as he put the Stars on the board first. Marian was able to get off two more shots before the halftime break while OCU continued to put the pressure on as one of its next three shots came on-goal.

Leading 1-0 out of the break, OCU extended its advantage with Alongi's second goal of the game from Loenzo Nardini as he took the shot from outside the box that hit the top post and bounced its way in. Looking like the Stars could put it on cruise control, Marian had its first opportunity with 19 minutes to play after a foul inside the box gave the Knights a penalty kick from Yeudiel Gonzalez who cut the deficit in half.

Just five minutes later things got more interesting as Marian used the momentum in its own favor as Josh Wesseling cashed in the match tying goal in the 76th minute. Oklahoma City had one last chance to avoid extra time as a header shot from Shay Prescod was grabbed by the Knights keeper Juan Torres which wrapped up the 90 minutes of play at 2-2.

In the first overtime, Oklahoma City held Marian to just one shot that went way wide of the net while Imbert put one on goal for OCU only to be saved once again.

As neither team could find the back of the net in the first 10-minute overtime, Oklahoma City needed just a little more than four minutes to close things down as the connection from Imbert and Alongi was put on display as Alongi got loose and put it in the goal for the game-winner.
