PARK CITY, Kan. - The Oklahoma City women's wrestling team began its 2024-25 season in the Falcon Open on Friday as the Stars had four girls place with
Avery Ashley winning the 110 pound class.
Despite being short-handed, the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Women's Wrestling team delivered an outstanding performance at the Falcon Open, solidifying their national standing as one of the top teams in the country.
Leading the charge, OCU's 2X All-American
Avery Ashley was unstoppable in the 110-pound weight class. Ashley went 4-0 for the tournament, dominating each match with a fall in the finals. Ashley defeated #5-ranked Alexsys Jacquez of Saint Mary's on her way to the top of the podium and reaffirmed her position among the nation's best.
Also making waves was #14-ranked
Bryce White, who had an impressive day in the 131-pound division. White fought her way to a 5-1 record, finishing third. She defeated #10-ranked Ashley Palimo along the way, further establishing her prowess on the mat.
OCU's
Corin Lowe had a standout performance in the 160-pound bracket, where she recorded a thrilling upset against #6-ranked Aspen Barber from Doane in the tournament's first round. Lowe's determination propelled her to a fourth-place finish, capping off a 5-1 day.
In her debut season, freshman Ella Murphy showed incredible promise in the 207-pound division. Ranked #20 in the country, Murphy won four matches and claimed third place, showcasing her potential as a rising star for OCU.
The Stars look forward to building on this momentum as they continue their season next weekend at the Viking Open in Poteau, Okla.
