Stars stout defense shuts out Panhandle 3-0

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma City mens soccer team kept its undefeated record alive with a 3-0 win on the road against Oklahoma Panhandle State.

How it Happened
Oklahoma City came right on the attack with shots on-goal in the third minute and seventh minute of play from Marco Alongi and Thomas Brulay but Aggies goalkeeper kept the Stars off the board off the board for the time being. Oklahoma City finally broke through with Alongi sending one home this time for the first score of the game. David Imbert extended the Stars lead with just before the end of the half after a counter attack by Jordan Da Costa who fed the ball to Imbert for the score. Oklahoma City added one more with 20 minutes to go in the contest as Hannan Ashraf placed the dime perfectly to the foot of Jovanny Nsonga who knocked it inside the net to secure the 3-0 victory. 

Notes on the Game
  • With the win, Oklahoma City wins its fourth straight match and remains unbeaten moving to 8-0-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
  • OCU took 18 total shots with 10 coming on-goal while Panhandle attempted five with just one on-goal.
  • Marco Alongi scored for the fourth straight game and extended his team-lead in goals with 10 while ranking second in the conference in goals scored. 
  • David Imbert got back in the scoring column for the first time since Sept. 3 with his sixth goal of the season tying for second on the team.
  • After seeing Imbert take sole possession of second in goals scored, Nsonga tied right back up with Imbert with his sixth goal of the season coming late in the second half. Nsonga scored for the first time since his hat trick against Randall on Sept. 3. 
  • The Stars played a stellar brand of defense allowing its second fewest amount of shots (5) and second least amount of shots on-goal (1).

Oklahoma City returns to Brian Harvey Field on Tuesday, Oct. 8 where it will host Wayland Baptist in the early game at 4:00 PM.
