Game Preview: Volleyball vs Langston / Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City volleyball team will look go above .500 for the first time this season as the Stars host Langston on Friday night before senior day on Saturday against Central Christian.

STARS OUTLOOK
Oklahoma City enters the weekend with an 11-11 record overall and 11-5 in conference play, tying for fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. Ruby Kelley comes off winning the Sooner Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week after posting 15 kills and nine digs last Friday night before setting a career-high on Saturday against Wayland Baptist with 22 kills and three blocks. The Stars come off a midweek contest against Southwestern Christian where OCU defeated the Eagles in three sets for the 12th straight win over Southwestern Christian. On Tuesday night it was Rylee Steward who gave OCU 11 kills on her third best hitting percentage of the season at .474 while posting four blocks. Oklahoma City set a season-best with 13 aces as a team while Joeci Hunt served a total of five aces with four consecutive coming in the second set. Erin Mack posted a season-best of four blocks which tied a game-high with Kelley and Steward as Mack added three kills in the contest. Natalie Adams dished out 17 assists to go along with seven digs as Adams earned double-digit assists for the 21st time this season. Oklahoma City will gear up to face Langston and Central Christian who they already swept once before this season back in September.

SCOUTING THE LIONS...
Langston enters Friday night with a 3-21 overall record along with a 2-14 record in conference play. The Lions come off back-to-back losses to Science & Arts and Mid-America Christian while having dropped eight of their last nine contests. Langston earned its last victory on Oct. 15 in a five-set battle against Central Christian where Meagan Anderson went for a season-high 25 assists. Alycia Shaw stands as the only Lion with 100 plus kills having a team-high total of 126 on the season. Leah McCall sits seventh overall in digs among the conference leaders having three games with 20 or more digs including her season-high of 23 coming against Wayland Baptist on Sept. 7.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS...
The Tigers come in hungry after dropping its previous 10 games while holding a record of 1-22 on the season. The Tigers lone victory came back on Sept. 21 in a three-set sweep over Southwestern Christian. Amanda Dotter enters as the top attacker in the conference as she ranks first in the SAC with 265 kills on a .119 attack percentage.Dotter's top game happened recently back on Oct. 15 where she put up 28 kills with 10 digs for her first double-double of the season in the five-set defeat to Langston. Central Christian has two players with 200 plus assists which include the team leader Zoe Smith with 294 and sophomore Maddie Nix not far behind with 254.

SERIES HISTORY vs LANGSTON
  • Oklahoma City holds a 10-0 record over Langston dating back to 2013 as nine of the 10 matches have ended in three-set victories for the Stars. 
  • Oklahoma City swept Langston in the previous meeting back on Sept. 21 where Head Coach Kristen Coventon earned her 100th victory at OCU.
  • Rylee Steward delivered a season-high 13 kills while Grace Smallwood set a season-high with four aces while having the second most kills for the Stars with nine. 
  • Natalie Adams held a game-high 22 assists while Ruby Kelley tied a game-high with four blocks.

SERIES HISTORY vs CENTRAL CHRISTIAN
  • OCU will look to remain unbeaten against the Tigers as the series record stands at 14-0 in favor of the Stars since 2017 as only one match back in 2022 has went more than three sets.
  • In the previous meeting back on Sept. 20, Oklahoma City took a three-set victory behind nine aces as a team and 16 assists from Natalie Adams.
  • Oklahoma City left with a season-best .466 attack percentage while Ruby Kelley tied a game-high of 13 kills.
