Second half goals send OCU to a 2-1 win on Brian Harvey Day

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to take down the Central Christian Tigers 2-1 on Brian Harvey Day.

Oklahoma City 2, Central Christian 1

'65 - Yami Ponce
'66 - Amelia Horsford; Assisted by Reese Roberts

How it Happened
Oklahoma City got off to quick break as Chloi Thurman drove all the way down the pitch then passing it up to Horsford who took the shot that was swatted away on a brilliant play by the Tigers keeper. Central Christian attempted two shots on-goal in the first 15 minutes before the stout OCU defense kept the opposition without a shot for the remainder of the half. Oklahoma City was able to get off eight shots in the first 45 minutes but came up empty.

After coming out of the locker room on an aggressive attack, the Stars took five shots in the first 10 minutes and continued to control possession before a corner kick by Abby Russell clipped the hand of the keeper, bounced off the cross bar and fell into the foot of Yami Ponce who booted it home for the first goal of the contest. One minute later, Reese Roberts took her turn from the corner placing it right off Ameila Horsford who sprinted in for the goal putting the up 2-0. Looking out of reach, Central Christian kept fighting as the Tigers made things interesting with a goal in the 81st minute. Once again, the OCU defense stood strong by not allowing another shot attempt for the rest of the way securing the one point win on Saturday.
