Game Preview: Volleyball vs John Brown / College of the Ozarks

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars volleyball team return back to Abe Lemons Arena to start the second half of conference play on Friday and Saturday. 

Friday, October 11
6:00 p.m. – Oklahoma City (7-10, 7-4 SAC) vs John Brown (9-10, 8-3 SAC)

Saturday, October 12
1 p.m. – Oklahoma City (7-10, 7-4 SAC) vs College of the Ozarks (10-7, 6-5 SAC)

STARS OUTLOOK
Oklahoma City returns back home to Abe Lemons Arena to open the second half of Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Stars come off back-to-back losses after falling to Nelson and Texas Wesleyan last weekend. Despite falling in three to Nelson, Michela De Sefano had her breakout game of the season after posting a season-high of eight kills by topping her previous number set in her first game of the season two weeks ago against Mid-America Christian. Oklahoma City enters with a 7-10 record overall while completing the first half of conference at 7-4. In the seven conference wins only two have been decided in more than three sets while OCU was able to rack up four sweeps in its five game winning streak it had going a couple of weeks ago.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES...
  • John Brown holds a record of 9-10 overall while going 8-3 in the first half of conference play.
  • JBU enters winning three in a row with three straight sweeps over Panhandle, Langston and Central Christian. 
  • The Golden Eagles picked up a big win over Mid-America Christian in four sets back on Sept. 20 behind 14 kills and from Savanna Riney and a big game from Erin Mullins who had 13 kills and seven blocks.
  • John Brown ranks as the number two blocking team in the Sooner Athletic Conference with 142.0 total blocks, one behind the leader Texas Wesleyan. 
  • Erin Mullins ranks first in the conference in total blocks with 82 on the season seeing her season-high come on Sept. 21 against USAO where she tallied eight blocks in the three-set sweep over the Drovers.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS...
  • College of the Ozarks enter the weekend 10-7 overall and 6-5 in SAC play.
  • The Bobcats come off back-to-back victories last weekend over Central Christian and Langston as they are winners in their last four of five matches and sit seventh in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. 
  • Bri Linehan leads the Bobcats in kills and ranks third in all of the conference. She tallied a season-best of 16 on Sept. 21 against MACU with 16. 
  • Mica Chadwell leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with 388 digs entering the weekend as she set a career-high of 41 digs on Sept. 28 in the five set win over Wayland Baptist.
  • College of the Ozarks will take on Southwestern Christian on Friday night before visiting the Stars on Saturday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY vs JOHN BROWN
  • Oklahoma City holds a 31-14 series record over John Brown dating back to 2006. 
  • John Brown took the previous meeting which came back on Sept. 7 in four sets.
  • The Stars racked up its third-most kills of the season in Siloam Springs with 48 while notching a season-high 94 digs. 
  • Joeci Hunt led the way with 21 digs, her second-highest total of the season. 
  • Jaiden Downey tallied her second-most assists this season with 20. 
SERIES HISTORY vs COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS
  • Oklahoma City trails the Bobcats in the all-time series three games to four since first meeting in 2009.
  • The two schools met back on Sept. 6 for the first time in 12 years as College of the Ozarks joined the SAC at the beginning of the 2024 season. 
  • OCU took the match in four sets inside Keeter Gymnasium as Oklahoma City fed off a huge third set win by a score of 25-9. 
  • The Stars tallied its second-most kills of the season with 49 in the previous meeting while also dishing out its second most assists along with the second-high block total of the season.
  • Ruby Kelley led the previous match with 14 kills while also notching a season-high of eight blocks. 
  • Kaitlyn Dunlap tallied her second-most digs on the year with a team-high 22.
