Record day at the foul line lets OCU cruise to 60-42 victory over UNT-Dallas

DALLAS, TEXAS – The Oklahoma City Stars women's basketball team snapped a two-game skid earning its first road win of the season with a 60-42 victory over UNT-Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

Jerzie Bryant and Amaya Gordon helped lead Oklahoma City (4-9, 3-4) through the first quarter combining for nine of the 12 OCU points as the two teams were all tied up after the beginning 10 minutes.

The Stars started hot to begin the second quarter with a 7-0 run after back-to-back layups by Gordon and Cacie Gorman. UNT-Dallas (1-6, 1-6) was held scoreless for the first four and a half minutes and was limited to just six points in the second quarter thanks to a stifling OCU defense which picked up four steals and forced six turnovers from the Trailblazers. Seven different Stars found the bottom net in the second quarter to help take a 24-18 lead into the half.

UNT-Dallas opened the second half with six straight points to help tie things up with 7:33 to play in the quarter. Oklahoma City later returned the favor with an 8-3 run to close out the quarter as freshman guard Lauren Rowan knocked down a pair of free throws to go up 37-31.

Oklahoma City saw its better 10-minute period come at the right time in the final quarter as the Stars outscored UNT-Dallas 23-11 and used a 13-0 run to pull away from the Trailblazers. Bryant led the way for the Stars in the fourth quarter with seven points and five rebounds while senior Ray Osborn got in on the action with six points.

The big fourth quarter for OCU helped snap a two-game skid and give OCU its third conference win of the season with the 60-42 victory over UNT-Dallas on Saturday.

Freshman Jerzie Bryant finished with 15 points and a season-high seven rebounds while knocking down two three-pointers in 38 minutes of action.

Jazmin Adams had a big day for OCU as the freshman scored 12 points and gathered a season-high 17 rebounds off the bench. Adams grabbed nine offensive rebounds in 21 minutes of playing time.

Seniors Ray and Osborn and Amaya Gordon both split for nine points each as Osborn scored all nine points from the charity stripe going 9-10 from the line. Gordon also used a strong effort from the free throw line by scoring seven of her nine points from there while also finishing with five rebounds and two blocks.

As a team, OCU shot 30-35 from the foul line making it the most free throws made in a single game since Nov. 30, 2019.

Oklahoma City earned its second consecutive victory over the Trailblazers moving the all-series record to 5-1 in favor of OCU.

The Stars will return home on Thursday, Jan. 11 against MId-America Christian at 6 PM.
