OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight game as they suffered a 63-44 loss on Thursday (Jan. 25) to the second-place team in the conference Langston inside Abe Lemons Arena.
Oklahoma City (5-14, 4-9) got off to a strong start as the Stars closed out the final 3:25 on a 12-0 run while holding Langston (15-2, 10-2) scoreless for the last five minutes of the quarter. Amaya Gordon and Jazmin Adams paced the Stars in the first quarter with four points each with a combined seven rebounds.
Things turned dark in the second quarter after a difficult shooting effort of 17.3% and only being able to score seven points in the 10 minutes.
Oklahoma City trailed by just five points entering the fourth quarter but a 3-14 quarter from the field led to Langston outscoring OCU 16-6 in the final 10 minutes allowing the Lions to secure a 63-44 win.
Senior Analynn Bohner hit two triples and finished with six points while senior Amaya Gordon came two rebounds short of a double-double snapping her streak of eight straight games as Gordon led the team with 10 points while adding five assists.
The Stars combined to shoot 31.0 percent (18-of-58) from the floor and got out rebounded by a 47-38 margin.
Langston was able to win the turnover battle 29-20, as the 29 OCU turnovers were the most that the Stars have had all year long.
Langston produced three double-digit scorers, paced by Kameron Shelley's 17 points, four rebounds, and six steals. Hailey Jordan scored 12 and tied Jordynn Conner with a team-high seven rebounds as Conner racked up eight points. Off the bench, Kamesha Moore shot at a 5-of-10 clip from the field rounding out the double-figure scorers with 12 points, five rebounds, and four steals.
The Stars will hit the road to tip off a three-game road trip starting in the Sunflower State on Saturday (Jan. 27) afternoon when Oklahoma City faces Central Christian at 2 PM in McPherson, Kan.
