McPHERSON, KAN. -- Senior Amaya Gordon scored a career-high 29 points and hauled in a career-high 18 rebounds as the Oklahoma women's basketball team rode a game-ending 5-2 run to complete a 57-52 win over Central Christian on Saturday afternoon.
Down by as many as seven points early on in the second quarter, Oklahoma City (6-14, 5-9) showed incredible toughness with just one reserve on the bench despite going 0-6 from behind the arc and relying on the senior captain Amaya Gordon to come to push the Stars through on a 60% shooting day to snap a five-game losing streak and sweep Central Christian (4-15, 0-13) in the 2023-24 season, keeping the Tigers winless in conference play.
With a seven-point deficit just two minutes into the second quarter, the visiting Stars went to work and used a 7-2 rally to end the quarter and take a 28-27 lead into the locker room after shooting 53.3% from the field in the 10 minutes.
Once securing the advantage, Oklahoma never looked back as the Stars increased their lead up to eight as Ray Osborn knocked down a pair of free throws while Gordon went 1-of-2 from the stripe to cap off an 11-6 run with 2:32 remaining in the third.
The final quarter turned into the Amaya Gordon show as the senior netted the first 11 points of the period as OCU held a two-point lead with 1:58 to go. After going 1-of-2 from the line again from Gordon, Cacie Gorman grabbed a clutch offensive rebound and followed it with a putback layup which became the dagger that extended the lead to four.
Oklahoma City ended the afternoon 24-of-59 from the field (40.7 percent) outscored Central Christian 32-22 in the paint and found a way to come out victorious despite not making a three while the Tigers swished five from downtown.
Kylee Jones was the top scorer for Central as the only Tiger to reach double-figures while going 2-of-4 from three and 4-for-8 from the field on the night.
Ray Osborn pitched in a big day nearing a triple-double while scoring 11 points and including a career-high seven assists and a season-high nine rebounds. The third senior Cacie Gorman came in second for Oklahoma City scoring with 15 points and 10 rebounds to earn her third double-double of the season.
OCU will continue its road trip next week as the action continues Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 PM as the Stars take on Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas.
