OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City men's basketball team ran into the national title contender Langston as the Stars absorbed an 88-50 setback on Thursday night (Jan. 25) inside Abe Lemons Arena, ending the team's three-game home stand.
Oklahoma City (5-14, 3-9) began the contest on a slow start, falling behind 15-6 through the first five minutes as Parker Jones scored the first six points of the game for OCU while Yorgio Golesis broke a five-minute scoring drought for the Stars at the 12:18.
Golesis scored nine of his team-leading 15 points in the first half, while going 7-10 from the charity stripe.
Senior Brandon Jackson netted five of his seven points in the second half to go along with a team-high eight rebounds while sinking a three for the fifth time in the last six games.
Langston (18-0, 12-0) gained control in the first half with a 15-7 run while seeing as much as a 40-point lead late in the second half.
Oklahoma City shot 34.9 percent (15-of-43) for the second straight game despite earning a a 65-60 win over John Brown on Tuesday.
The Lions hit 46.2 percent of its attempts (30-of-65) while knocking down 10 shots from downtown and took advantage 18 OCU turnovers, converting the miscues into 23 points.
Langston had six players score double figures with Cortez Mosley leading the way with 19 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
Oklahoma City returns to action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27) to open a three-game road trip with a battle at Central Christian. Tipoff is set for 3:45 p.m. in McPherson, Kan.
