Golden Eagles soar past Stars to open second half of SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City women's basketball team dropped its matchup against #21 John Brown to open the second half of SAC play on Tuesday night inside Abe Lemons Arena.

Oklahoma City (5-13, 4-8 SAC) led, 4-0 right out of the gate in the first quarter, but No. 21 ranked John Brown (15-3, 12-0 SAC) closed out the final four minutes on a 12-4 un and the Golden Eagles built a 31-21 halftime advantage by limiting the Stars to eight first-quarter points and tying each other in the second quarter of play.

Oklahoma City, which struggled from beyond the arc making just three of 14 3-point field goals in the contest, never got any closer than the 10-point deficit it felt at the halftime break.

JBU was lighting it up from deep as the Golden Eagles shot the third-best percentage from downtown by an opponent this season. John Brown tallied three players in double figures as Bella Irlenborn led with a team-high 15 points while going 3-6 from long range.

Amaya Gordon posted her seventh double-double of the season while moving her double-double streak to four straight games with a team-leading 15 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Stars.

Jerzie Bryant tied Gordon for the game-high with 15 points being the only other Star to reach double digits while knocking down all the team's threes.

Bryant reached double-figure scoring for the fourth time in the last five games as the freshman saw 37 minutes of action on Tuesday evening.

Oklahoma City will wrap up a three-game home stretch Thursday (Jan. 25) by hosting Langston University at 6 PM inside Abe Lemons Arena.
