OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City women's basketball team overcame an 18-point deficit and cut it down to just one point but fell short in a tight battle with Texas Wesleyan 66-63 on Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma City (5-12, 4-7) dropped its third straight game and suffered its seventh loss of the season by five points or less. Texas Wesleyan (9-8, 5-6) saw four girls reach double-figures as Mary Nyakundi led the way for the Rams with 18 points with three makes from beyond the arc.
Trailing by 18 with 8:39 to go the Stars began to rally by putting together a 10-0 run after three-pointers by
Analynn Bohner and
Jerzie Bryant helped put Oklahoma City within striking distance.
With 3:26 remaining Texas Wesleyan extended its lead back out to nine points however once again here came OCU with an 8-0 run as Bohner ignited the comeback followed by
Ray Osborn cashing in on back-to-back buckets to trim the deficit down to one point with 52 seconds left.
Oklahoma City had two chances to win it on its end but could not convert with either shot attempt forcing the Stars to have to foul as the Rams closed out the game with a pair of free throws to clinch the 66-63 victory.
Amaya Gordon was sensational on Saturday as the senior netted 15 points while hauling in a career-high 17 rebounds to notch her sixth double-double of the season and her third consecutive.
Ray Osborn and
Analynn Bohner rounded out the double-figure scorers for the OCU as Osborn dropped 12 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists while Bohner tallied a career-high of 13 points as the senior went 3-7 from beyond the arc.
Oklahoma City suffered its sixth straight loss to Texas Wesleyan while the Stars hold a 15-6 record over the Rams in the all-time series.
OCU will remain at home for two more this week as the Stars are back in action on Tuesday against the top team in the conference John Brown inside Abe Lemons Arena at 6 PM.
