Gordon notches career-high in 76-71 defeat

CHICKASHA, OKLA. - The Oklahoma City Stars women's basketball team took Science & Arts down to the wire but fell short in a 76-71 defeat on the road.

Oklahoma City (5-11, 4-6) got off to a slow start after Science & Arts (11-5, 7-3) opened with a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes of play.

The Drovers closed out the first quarter with a 19-8 advantage as Lainey Morrow kicked off her big night with six points and three rebounds in the first 10 minutes. OCU found its groove in the next quarter as Amaya Gordon capped off a 9-4 Stars run with a jumper from inside the foul line.

Oklahoma City outscored USAO in the second and third quarter thanks to Amaya Gordon scoring 11 points in the second quarter while in the third it was Oklahoma City taking its first lead of the night as Annalynn Bohner sank a three from the corner as time expired putting Oklahoma City ahead 53-52 heading into the final period.

Morrow for USAO put the Drovers back on top in the beginning of the fourth quarter as the Drovers maintained a lead up until a layup from Jazmin Adams with 2:14 to go gave OCU the advantage.

Morrow again put the Drovers back in front, and this time they held on. Gordon cut the deficit down to just one with a pair of free throws and the Stars had a chance to tie the game under 10 seconds but came up empty as USAO came away with a five-point victory on Thursday night.

Amaya Gordon was hitting on all cylinders during Thursday's game as the senior notched a new career-high of 25 points while hauling in 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Despite going without a three-point make, Jerzie Bryant continued to catch fire as the freshman guard scored 18 points for the second consecutive game and reached double-figures for the third straight game.

Ray Osborn was the third and final Star to reach double-digit scoring as Osborn tallied 12 points while going 6-6 from the free throw line and picked up three steals.

Jazmin Adams came off the bench providing eight points and five rebounds while nailing two three-pointers while Analynn Bohner also cashed in on two threes scoring a season-high six points.

Oklahoma City returns to action on Saturday as the Stars begin a three-game home stand starting with Texas Wesleyan at 2 PM inside Abe Lemons Arena.
