Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Four Stars score double-digits despite five-point defeat

BETHANY, OKLA.. - The Oklahoma City women's basketball team had four players reach double-figures on Saturday despite falling short to Southwestern Christian 70-65.

Southwestern Christian (8-7, 4-5) handed Oklahoma City (5-10, 4-5) its first loss after winning two consecutive games in conference play despite the Stars outshooting the Eagles from the field and the free throw line.

OCU's largest lead came right after the tip as the Stars jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind a pair of layups from Cacie Gorman along with her senior counterpart Amaya Gordon.

Southwestern Christian took a lead with four seconds to go in the first quarter and held on to it until 1:10 remaining in the third as freshman Jerzie Bryant came off a screen with a pull-up jumper to put the Stars back in front overcoming as much as an eight-point deficit.

Down by four midway through the fourth quarter, Jazmin Adams put the team on her back by stringing together a 5-0 run all by herself putting OCU up by one with 4:29 to go.

Unfortunately, that was the last time Oklahoma City controlled the lead as SCU came right back with a 4-0 run of its own that helped swing the momentum in the direction of the Eagles.

Gordon was able to cut it to just two after knocking down a pair of foul shots but a big shot from Cassie Colong for SCU helped put the Stars away and give SCU a five-point victory after sinking its free throws to finish the game.
Jazmin Adams paced the Stars with a game-high 19 points setting a new career high by surpassing her previous total of 18 which came in the Dec. 2 win against Central Christian.

Cacie Gorman and Amaya Gordon both earned double-doubles as Gorman reached a new season-high with 14 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. For Gordon, the senior tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds while coming just one assist shy of a triple-double.

Coming off a career night against Mid-America Christian on Thursday, Jerzie Bryant continued to shine with an 18-point performance in 40 minutes of action.

Despite winning the first eight meetings against the Eagles, SCU has won back-to-back matchups against Oklahoma City bringing the all-time series record to 8-2 in favor of the Stars.

Oklahoma City will return to the hardwood staying on the road on Thursday, Jan. 18 against Science & Arts at 6 PM in Chickasha, Okla.
