Ottawa took four shots in the first 35 minutes of play without a make until Paytyn Okey nailed her first goal of the season from 40 yards out to give OUAZ the lead 1-0 in the 39th minute. Neither side could get a shot off in the final five minutes as the match entered the intermission with the Spirit out in front.

Just over 10 minutes into the half Russell tried again to score only to be saved by the Spirit goalkeeper Akela Patterson. Ottawa made several attempts to score but to no avail, as the score stayed 1-0 midway through the second period. After another attempt from Russell came up empty, Ottawa found its way down the left side of the field on a breakaway as Heather Walker took a shot at an angle putting it in on the right side of the net to extend the Spirit lead out to 2-0. OCU was only able to take two more shots for the remainder of the match as Russell took a shot wide followed by a shot from Cara Compton that had a chance on goal only to be saved by the new Spirit goalkeeper Chloe Avila. Time ran out on the Stars as Ottawa was able to hold on for a 2-0 win on Monday morning.
