OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City women's soccer team suffer its loss since the season opener on Aug. 26 against Missouri Baptist as the Stars fall 3-1 to Arizona Christian on Saturday morning.

First Half
Both teams started with a couple of shots to start the first 20 minutes of the first half. Arizona Christian made its way into the lead with a goal from distance from Cadence Peroff to go up 1-0. OCU tried three more times with shots from McLain Moss, Abby Russell, and Reese Roberts however they all came up empty on the attempts. In the 38th minute, Arizona Christian struck again with another long shot from Tatum Dowell to send the game into the halftime break with the Firestorm holding on to a 2-0 lead.
Second Half
In the first minute of the second half Arizona Christian made the mistake of fouling OCU inside the box forcing a penalty kick. Russell lined up for the PK try and kicked away only to be blocked and saved by the Firestorm goalkeeper Brenna Sonsini. After the early missed opportunity on the penalty kick the Stars shot six more times up until the midway point and could not capitalize on any of them. With under 30 minutes to play Arizona Christian cashed in yet again with a goal from Cameron Mercado to go ahead 3-0 in the 63rd minute. Not long after in the 66th minute, Russell finally got a shot to go in to cut into the deficit and make it a 3-1 game. The Stars tried to find their way back as Russell took four more shot attempts to will her team's way back into it, however, those shots refused to fall in as Arizona Christian came away with a 3-1 victory to finish off the contest.
Game Notes
- OCU played a very aggressive offensive attack on Saturday morning having 23 shot attempts with nine on-goal to Arizona Christian's nine total shots with six on-goal.
- Abby Russell took a season-high nine shots with two on-goal attempts. Russell scored for the fourth consecutive game giving her four goals on the season.
- Freshman Reese Roberts also took a season-high five shots and had three on-goal attempts but could not get one to go in.
- Today's game was only the second time this season the Stars have given up more than one goal as they allowed Arizona Christian to tie a season-high in points allowed of three which last came on Aug. 26 against Missouri Baptist.
- Saturday's match was only the second meeting between the two schools as they previously met in 2021 with Arizona Christian winning 3-2. The Firestorm continues to stay unbeaten against the Stars leading the series 2-0.
NEXT GAME
The OCU women's soccer team will turn around and play Monday, Sept. 18 to continue the long home stand as the Stars will take on Ottawa (Ariz.) at 11 AM at Brian Harvey Field.
