SAN ANTONIO – The Oklahoma City Stars Volleyball team dropped its season opener in the San Antonio Shindig to NAIA number one and 2022 national champion Jamestown Jimmies in three sets.

Set 1
Jamestown took an early lead and rode the momentum throughout the first set. Trailing by as many as six points in the first set OCU made its way back after a big block from Junior
Emma Nickerson that shifted the momentum towards the Stars. Junior All-American
Rylee Steward brought the Stars back within three making it a 21-18 game after a pair of kills. Jamestown answered right back and took a five-point lead of 23-18 until the Stars picked things back up and scored three straight points after a big kill from junior
Ruby Kelley an ace from freshman
Jaiden Downey followed by an attacking error on Jamestown making it 23-21 in the first set. After making it a one-point game Jamestown's Logan Sherman converted a big kill giving the Jimmies a chance to win the set on the ensuing possession which they would do. An attacking error on
Ruby Kelley put a halt to the OCU comeback giving Jamestown the win 25-22 in the first set.
Set 2
In the second set things started the same way they did in the first as Jamestown took an early lead and never looked back. Jamestown took a 10-6 lead until OCU turned around and went on a 5-0 run as
Michela De Stefano picked up two kills with
Ruby Kelley putting the Stars up in front 11-10 with an ace of her own. The next couple of points went back and forth toward each side until another service from OCU's freshman
Natalie Adams gave the Stars another one-point lead. After the Adams ace OCU was shut out for the remainder of the set as Jamestown scored 13 unanswered points to capture set number two.
Set 3
Jamestown put together another strong set in the third as the Jimmies pulled away from the Stars early. Jamestown took a 10-5 lead over OCU and scored four unanswered points going into an Oklahoma City timeout. After the timeout from Head Coach
Kristen Coventon, Jamestown finished the set on a 15-5 run winning the third set 25-10 and earning the sweep.
Game Notes
Oklahoma City came away with 24 kills on the day with a .012 attacking percentage while Jamestown edged out the Stars with 30 kills on a .222 clip.
Rylee Steward tied a game-high eight kills on a .042 attack percentage while junior
Ruby Kelley came in with five kills on a .143 attack percentage.
Freshman
Natalie Adams who returned home for the weekend in San Antonio tied a game-high in assists with 15 in her collegiate debut. while freshman
Jaiden Downey led the Stars with two aces to go along with Kelley and Adams who had one service ace each.
With a tough test right out of the gate in the season opener, the defending champions and NAIA number one Jamestown got the best of Oklahoma City in the first-ever meeting between the two opponents. After a tight first set and the Stars taking a late lead, OCU struggled to regain the momentum and snatch a win.

The Stars will pick things back up tomorrow, August 26 as OCU will play two more games in the San Antonio Shindig with a matchup at 1:30 PM against Carroll College followed by a contest between the host team Our Lady of the Lake at 4 PM.
