OCU falls short 4-1 to USAO in SAC Tournament title game

Stars look forward to NAIA Championship Opening Round

OKLAHOMA CITY – Science & Arts handed Oklahoma City University a 4-1 loss in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament championship game Sunday afternoon at Ann Lacy Stadium in a clash of top 10-ranked teams among the NAIA.

Fifth-ranked Oklahoma City went to 45-9, while 10th-ranked Science & Arts (39-13) collected its third SAC Tournament championship. The Stars host the NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket on May 15-17 at Ann Lacy Stadium.

The Stars got their first run in the first inning off Lexi Duff's sacrifice fly. Kaitlyn Jones reached on a single to left-center field to start the game. Jones scored on Duff's fly ball to center field.

The Drovers got 10 hits in the game. Science & Arts tied the contest in the second on Slater Eck's RBI base hit. Isabela Portillo delivered the winning hit in the third with two outs on a single to right. Jaylee Willis doubled just out of the reach of a diving Carlee Mollet to bring in two more runs.

OCU was looking for more scoring in the sixth as Kamryn Garvie and Analise Rayburn got on base with two outs. Portillo dove to grab Brooklyn Mason's line drive to end the threat.

The Stars' five hits came from Amy Crabaugh, Mollet, Rayburn, Jones and Garvie.

Shelbey Cornelson rang up four strikeouts in six innings as she took just her third loss on the year, moving to 25-3. Sophie Williams notched six strikeouts for Science & Arts.
