Stars oust Southwestern Christian 7-3

OCU battles Science & Arts for SAC Tournament crown 1 p.m. Sunday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University moved on in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament with a 7-3 victory over Southwestern Christian on Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.

The Stars, ranked fifth in the NAIA, will face off against 10th-ranked Science & Arts at 1 p.m. Sunday in the SAC Tournament championship game. Oklahoma City (45-8) will strive for its 21st SAC Tournament title.

The two teams will meet in the conference tournament championship tilt for the fifth consecutive year. OCU has taken four of those matchups.

The Stars compiled 10 hits and put the game out of reach in their four-run seventh inning. Kaitlyn Jones reached home plate on an error to put OCU ahead 4-1. Kamryn Garvie nailed an RBI double. Brooklyn Mason ended the seventh-inning onslaught with a run-scoring single.

OCU got on the board first in the first inning with two runs as Analise Rayburn had an RBI single. Mason later scored on a groundout.

Amy Crabaugh, Garvie and Jones led OCU with two hits each. Rayburn and Mason led with two RBIs each. Crabaugh went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Garvie went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Jones had a 2-for-4 performance with one run. Rally Radacy supplied OCU with a 1-for-3 outing with a run.

Shelbey Cornelson allowed just three runs off seven hits while striking out one batter in seven innings. Two doubles and a seventh-inning two-run home run would be all the damage done to the Stars. Cornelson, a senior from Tuttle, Okla., studying exercise science, moved her record to 25-2 this year.
