OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University overcame early deficits in their 4-3 and 7-6 victories against Southwestern Christian on Saturday at Eagle Field at Dolese Park.
Barrett Daniel delivered winning hits in both games, sparking Oklahoma City to rally for a doubleheader sweep. OCU moved to 20-17, 12-6 in Sooner athletic Conference baseball on the year.
Daniel smacked a go-ahead three-run blast for the Stars in the top of the sixth as OCU held on for the final two innings in the first game. OCU rallied for the win in the second game as well.
Daniel went 2-for-3 in the first game with the home run and a triple. Daniel, a junior cellular & molecular biology major from Bixby, Okla., had three RBIs in the game. The Stars' top hitter was
Trent Kiraly as he went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Kiraly's one RBI came in the first inning, scoring
Jesse Fonteboa on the single.
Reese Ratchford went 2-for-4, and Fonteboa went 1-for-4 with a run to round out OCU's offense.
Tyler Polk got the start and went the distance on the mound as he struck out four batters. Polk, a senior majoring in criminal justice from Duncan, Okla., now holds a 2-2 record on the season.
In the second game of the twin bill, OCU trailed 6-1 in the sixth inning. OCU added one in the second on
Chad Pike's RBI single.
The Stars started their seventh-inning rally with
Noah Kang's pinch-hit home run.
Frankie Danel III and
Colin Pelton came in clutch with pinch-hit singles, then
Aiden Alexander drove both runs home on a double.
Hunter Lenochan got his first hit of the day to extend the inning. Kiraly who drove home Alexander.
Daniel came through again with the winning run on his two-run single. Daniel went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs and five RBIs on the day. Alexander supplied OCU with a 2-for-4 outing, driving in two runs. OCU had 12 hits in the game as seven other players picked up a hit.
Starting pitcher
Eli Davis pitched five innings as he allowed four runs on five strikeouts.
Reese Ratchford came in to pitch the seventh, closing out the game by striking out two batters and picking up his first win with the Stars.
OCU will host Bacone in a 1 p.m. twin bill Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
