OCU hammers Bacone 13-2, 15-0

Kiraly, Maun and Ratchford each hit pair of homers in doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University crushed Bacone 13-2 and 15-0 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.

The Stars launched eight home runs on the day. Oklahoma City moved to 22-17 with its seventh win in eight outings.

In the second game, Evan Maun belted two homers in the third inning, when OCU scored eight runs. Maun hammered his first homer of the year beyond the left-field wall leading off the inning. Reese Ratchford pounded a three-run blast to left, then Jesse Fonteboa nailed a solo shot also to left for back-to-back homers.

Maun smacked a two-run homer to left with two out to close out the scoring in the inning. Maun became the first Star to hit two homers in the same inning since Bryson Lierle went deep twice in the fifth inning of OCU's 20-9 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on May 7, 2021 in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Jim Wade Stadium.

In the second inning, Trent Kiraly smashed a solo homer for his second round tripper of the day. Hunter Lenochan lined a two-run double to center field, while Ratchford added a two-run single into left-center to put the Stars ahead 6-0.

Tristan Williams tacked on a homer to left in the fifth for the final margin.

Ratchford, a freshman from Sulphur, Okla., drove in a season-best five runs while going 2-for-3, while Kiraly, a junior from Farmington, N.M., majoring in finance, turned in a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI and two runs scored. Maun, a graduate student pursuing a master's in business administration, went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Kason Bennefield, a sophomore pre-engineering major from Owasso, Okla., collected his first victory by working the fourth inning. Bennefield, Isaac Horstman, Jordan Hanes, Anthony Kopecky and Chad Pike combined on the shutout.

In the first game, Ratchford notched a homer, double and a base hit, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Kiraly posted a 4-for-5 showing with four RBIs and two runs scored, and Barrett Daniel, a junior biomedical sciences major from Bixby, Okla., went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

In the first inning, Ratchford crushed a solo blast to left. Ratchford nailed a two-run double to right in the second.

Kiraly had a two-run single in the fourth, a solo homer in the fifth and a run-scoring base hit in the sixth. Daniel's RBI triple put OCU ahead 12-2 in the fifth.

Connor Ferguson, a junior right-handed marketing major from Garden City, Idaho, improved to 2-0 on the year, striking out seven in four innings. Grant Harrison, Cole Sedgwick and Frankie Danel III teamed to keep Bacone without a run in the final three innings.

The Stars meet Science & Arts at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
