BROOKINGS, S.D. – Milan Todorovic highlighted Oklahoma City University's effort in the NAIA men's indoor track & field championships by taking the 800-meter national title Saturday at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
The Stars finished fifth place in the 4x800-meter relay. The relay team of Todorovic, Tate Smithhart, Fares Marrouf and Brendan Robeaux earned all-American acclaim with their showing.
Todorovic posted the winning time of 1 minute, 52.03 seconds to nab his second all-American honor of the meet and sixth all-American accolade of his career. Todorovic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, majoring in computer science, reached the finals with a preliminary mark of 1:54.08.
Todorovic previously contributed to OCU winning the distance medley relay and placed third in the 800 in the 2021 NAIA indoor championships. He blazed his way to a personal-best time of 1:51.76 in the 800 in the Washburn Open earlier in February.
"Milan Todorovic earning his first individual national championship was the exclamation point on the way everyone battled this past week," OCU coach Frezer Legesse said.
In the 4x800-meter relay, the Stars produced a time of 7:38.11. OCU topped its time of 7:43.35 in the preliminaries.
"We had one of our best runners, Brendan Robeaux, go down the night before opening day which made our battle even tougher, but they all fought and made the most of the cards were dealt," Legesse said.
Oklahoma City competes in the outdoor season starting March 24-25 in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational in Shawnee, Okla.
