OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University shut down Panhandle State 4-0 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Panhandle State took the second game of the twin bill 4-2. The Stars went to 13-13, 5-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Eli Davis allowed only three base runners in a complete-game shutout of Panhandle State. Davis, a senior left-hander from Shawnee, Okla., studying criminal justice, retired the final 11 batters he faced. Davis carried a no-hitter through 2.2 innings.
Davis (5-2) struck out a career-best 14, striking out the side in the third and seventh innings. Davis notched his fourth complete game in eight starts and his first complete-game blanking of the year. Davis surpassed the 13 he fanned against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on Feb. 18, 2022.
In the second inning, Jesse Fonteboa belted a two-run home run over the left-field wall with two out. Barrett Daniel walked to precede Fonteboa's blast.
In the fourth, Felix Chenier-Rondeau scored as Tristan Williams grounded out. Hunter Brown drove in another run with a base hit to left field in the fifth. Hunter Lenochan doubled into left-center before Brown's RBI single.
In the second game, the Stars' comeback fell short as OCU had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh. Williams nailed a fly ball to right to bring home Chad Pike. Daniel smacked a pinch-hit RBI single to left for OCU's second run.
Rylan Roberson (4-1) took the loss. He struck out six while allowing four hits in six innings.
Oklahoma City completes the series against Panhandle State at noon Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
