EL RENO, Okla. - Oklahoma City University fell to Wayland Baptist University 57-52 on Thursday night at The Pit on the campus of Redlands Community College.
 
Amaya Gordon led with 18 points as OCU moves to 11-12, 8-10 (SAC). Despite the loss, OCU was active on the glass and the defensive end racking up six blocks and out-rebounded the Flying Queens by 11.
 
OCU had an early 5-0 lead which was their largest in the first half in a back and forth first and second quarter.  The lead changed 13 times in the game and featured eight ties.  The Stars retook lead on Annilia Dawns 3-point play with 7:24 to go, but WBU got back out in front a minute later and led the rest of the way. OCU tried to play the foul game in the final minute, but Wayland converted their free-throws to seal the game.
 
Gordon, a junior psychology major from Ardmore, Okla. had five rebounds and shot 8-17 from the field. Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas shot 17 shots as well but made just three of them as she ended with 10 points and six rebounds. Out of the six blocks OCU had, Gorman, a junior Psychology major from Watonga, Okla. had five of OCU's six blocks and 11 rebounds.  Fiona Wilson and Elaine Witt both had seven points and five rebounds.
 
OCU shot 30 percent (20-of-66), and 14.3 percent on 3-pointers (3-of-21). Defensively, the Stars held WBU to 30 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from the three-point line. 

"I feel for our squad because they fought and scrapped through an incredibly physical game", OCU coach Kris Seigenthaler said.
 
OCU next plays on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Panhandle State at the University of Central Oklahoma's Hamilton Field House.
