OCU tops No. 24 MACU, 81-74

Dawn's career-high 34 paces Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University completed a series sweep of No. 24 Mid-America Christian on Saturday with an 81-74 victory at MACU's Gaulke Activity Center.

Annilia Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, finished with a career-high 34 points, going 10 for 10 at the line, while hitting 10 of her 25 shots from the field. The win followed a 73-71 OCU victory against the Evangels on Jan. 14, and moves the Stars to 13-14, 10-12 (SAC) on the season.

Fiona Wilson had 20 points, hitting two 3-pointers, and four of her five free throws. Wilson, a senior exercise science major from Greenland, Ark. was one rebound away from a double-double. Elaine Witt, a sophomore nursing major from Dale, Okla., had 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

OCU forced 17 turnovers and held MACU to 18.8 percent on 3-pointers. OCU only missed two free throws all game, hitting 18-of-20.

"It was a refusal to lose mindset," OCU coach Kris Seigenthaler said. "I am extremely proud of our cohesion and poise this afternoon. We fought and defended as one. I have been saying all season, do not sleep on this squad. We are tough and scrappy enough to compete with anyone inside the SAC. It's nothing new for us being road warriors and underdogs."

The Stars will travel to Texas Wesleyan for the conference tournament quarterfinals on Thursday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
