Texas Wesleyan knocks Stars out of SAC Tournament

OCU falls in SAC Tournament quarterfinals

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University bowed out of the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament after a 93-74 quarterfinal loss to Texas Wesleyan on Thursday night at the Sid Richardson Center.

Fiona Wilson totaled 21 points to lead OCU. The Stars fell to 13-15, while Texas Wesleyan, ranked 17th in the NAIA, moved onto the tournament semifinals.

Wilson, a senior from Greenland, Ark., studying human performance, hit all eight of her free-throw tries and snared five rebounds. Amaya Gordon, a junior criminal justice major from Ardmore, Okla., posted 19 points, four rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals for the Stars.

Annilia Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, supplied Oklahoma City with 16 points and 8-for-8 shooting at the foul line. Raegan Travis, a junior business administration major from Allen, Texas, contributed a season-high 12 points to go with five rebounds.

Kris Seigenthaler completed her first season as OCU coach with one win in four matchups against top 25-ranked teams.

"Nobody thought we could accomplish all that we had – 10 SAC wins, taking down No. 24 MACU on the road, getting into the SAC playoffs and establishing a reputation of being a fierce competitor," Seigenthaler said. "I am extremely proud of the grit and tenacity of this squad."

The Stars outscored Texas Wesleyan 23-16 on the strength of 52.9 percent shooting from the field in the fourth quarter.
