Stars use big fourth quarter to inch out 11 point victory over Panhandle State

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars women's basketball team picked up its second win of conference play after taking down Oklahoma Panhandle State 48-37 on Saturday afternoon inside Abe Lemons Arena.

Oklahoma City (3-7, 2-3) got out to a 6-2 lead with a layup by leading scorer Amaya Gordon. Oklahoma Panhandle State (0-6, 0-4) remained right with the Stars even taking a first quarter of 9-7.

Both offenses had a difficult time putting the ball in the basket during the second quarter as the Stars only tallied seven points on 2-16 shooting Jerzie Bryant and Amiya Howard were the only two Stars to score from the field.

Out of the locker room, senior Ray Osborn got the Stars going with back-to-back makes putting Oklahoma City in front. The OCU defense was able to hold OPSU scoreless for the final 3:54 of the third quarter helping boost the Stars to a 31-27 lead heading into the last quarter.

OCU saw its best quarter of the day come in the fourth out scoring the Aggies 17-10. OCU allowed only four points to come in the final 7:52 of the quarter from Panhandle as OCU was led by Amiya Howard with five points and four points apiece by Amaya Gordon, Cacie Gorman, and Jerzie Bryant

Oklahoma City utilized a 6-1 run to close out the game and took an 11-point lead, its largest of the night. Howard finished things off by knocking down a pair of free throws to secure a 48-37 victory.

Amaya Gordon led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds for the Stars while shooting 50% from the field and adding three blocks and three steals to her line.

Freshman Jerzie Bryant was the other Star to score in double-figures by stringing together 11 points and four rebounds.

Amiya Howard came off the bench on Saturday and gave the Stars a spark by notching a season-high nine points along with two assists.

The Stars earned their third straight win over the Aggies after getting their second Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season. With the win, OCU moves the all-time series to 10-2 dating back to 2018.
