BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. – The Oklahoma City women's basketball team wrapped up the 2023 part of its schedule with a 12-point loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan on the road on Friday afternoon.
Senior
Amaya Gordon got things going from the jump putting the Stars on top to start the game having the first six of eight points for OCU. Oklahoma City remained in front throughout the first quarter until things turned at the 3:03 mark as Jaelin Glass of Oklahoma Wesleyan swished a three giving the Eagles their lead of the ball game at 14-12.
Glass's three sent OKWU on to close out the first quarter on a 9-0 run taking a 20-12 lead at the conclusion of the first 10 minutes. Oklahoma City ended over a five-minute scoring drought with a basket by
Cacie Gorman at the 8:30 mark giving the Stars its first score since 4:17 remaining in the first quarter.
Since gaining the momentum late in the first quarter Oklahoma Wesleyan continued its hot streak as the Eagles extended their lead to as much as 16 and took a 42-29 lead into the halftime break. OCU began to turn things around coming out of the locker room opening up the third quarter on an 8-2 run as
Ray Osborn and Lauren Rowen both provided three-point plays to help bring the Stars back in it.
OKWU continued to hold the lead despite the Stars inching closer and closer. Oklahoma City outscored the Eagles 18-13 in the third and looked to ride its momentum into the final quarter.
Myracle Washington helped cut the OKWU lead to just six to begin the final quarter of play however a 7-2 run for the Eagles increased their lead back up to double-digits with 6:27 to go. Oklahoma Wesleyan put the clamps on the Stars in the fourth quarter by only allowing four points come from OCU in over seven minutes of play to help extend the Eagles lead to 14.
The OKWU lead seemed to be far too big for the Stars to catch back up despite Gordon and Gorman combining for the Stars last six points in the final two and a half minutes. Oklahoma Wesleyan secured the double-digit win by a score of 71-59 as the Stars head into a long time off before getting back to action in the new year.

Ray Osborn tied a game-high 15 points on 6-11 shooting while going 3-4 from the foul line. Her senior counterpart
Amaya Gordon added 12 points for the Stars while also collecting a game-high nine rebounds.
Oklahoma City struggled from range shooting just 1-of-6 from three with
Amiya Howard cashing in the only made attempt. The Stars went 39.3% from the field while going 58.8% from the foul line.
Oklahoma Wesleyan had three players score in double-figures showcasing a 43.1% day from the field while having a solid day from the free throw line with a 76.0% performance.
The loss was the first that OCU has suffered against Oklahoma Wesleyan in what was the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools which first started back in 2006.
Oklahoma City will pick things back up in the new year when the Stars take on Southwestern Assemblies of God in Waxahachie, Texas at 6 PM on Thursday, Jan. 4.
