OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars men's basketball team will play its final Sooner Athletic Conference game of the 2023 schedule as the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State come to town for Saturday's contest.

About the Stars

  • Oklahoma City enters Saturday's game on a four-game losing streak after dropping its first four conference games. 
  • OCU comes in with a top-15 win over The Master's University in the first game of the season during the Abe Lemons Classic.

About the Aggies

  • OPSU enters Saturday after a 2-1 start in conference play with wins over MACU and Southwestern Christian as the Aggies come off a 72-55 loss to John Brown. 
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State has already surpassed its win total from a season ago after having a 2-23 record last year. 
  • Fred Robinson IV leads the Aggies with 16.1 PPG while seeing his top performance come against Our Lady of the Lake with 24 points while going 8-11 from the line. 
  • Freshman Amaree Brown has been very impressive for the Aggies to start the season as Brown averages 14.8 PPG and went off for 26 points in the six-point win over Southwestern Christian. 
  • Panhandle enters 11th in the Sooner Athletic Conference in points per game with 64.6. 

Meet the Coaches

  • Mark Berokoff (3rd Season) 
    • Mark Berokoff is in his third season at the helm for the Stars coming off a 17-13 in the 2022-23 season while finishing third overall in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Berokoff, previously a three-time national champion at Randall University holds a 36-31 overall record at Oklahoma City
    • Before Randall, Berokoff served as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, Texas State, and Hill College. Berokoff contributed to one of Louisiana Tech's finest seasons with a 24-11 record and a berth in the College Insider Tournament quarterfinals.
    • At the high school level, Berokoff had a career record of 225-77 in 10 years of coaching, including winning the California Interscholastic Federation Championship. He also was involved with the Los Angeles Rockfish AAU team where he coached more than 50 future Division I players.
    • In 2005, he became the vice president of operations and head coach of the Lincoln Generals in the All-American Professional Basketball League (AAPBL). Other highlights include coaching at the prestigious ABCD Camp led by legendary Sonny Vaccaro and helping establish the 1Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities for foreign athletes.
  • Charles Belt (1st Season)
    • Charles Belt enters year one of his tenure at OPSU as Belt comes from previously serving as the head coach for William Woods University and is second in all-time wins in William Woods men's basketball program history
    • Before William Woods, Belt spent four seasons at Northern Michigan as the associate head coach. 

Series History 

  • Oklahoma City split the season series a year ago after suffering a one-point defeat in Goodwell last year before beating the Aggies by 10 in the last meeting.
  • OCU holds the upper hand in the all-time series with a 6-5 record dating back to 2018. 

What's Next

  • Oklahoma City will take a long break before its next game on Dec. 30 at 2 PM against Bethel College inside Abe Lemons Arena.
