Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars drop fifth straight to wrap up three-game road trip

LANGSTON, OKLA. – The Oklahoma City women's basketball faced its second Sooner Athletic Conference opponent on the road at Langston as the Stars struggled to score and contain the fast-paced offense of the Lions who topped the Stars 84-61 on Thursday night.

Oklahoma City (1-5, 0-2), fell short in its fifth straight game, and second straight game in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Stars were the first to get points on the board at the hands of a three-pointer made by Jerzie Bryant coming off of an assist from Amiya Howard. The Lions went on to hold OCU scoreless for three minutes, forcing turnovers and drawing fouls while converting on the offensive end, going up 9-3 early. The Lions defense displayed a stifling performance, only allowing the Stars to score 13 points to end the first quarter 25-13.

The second quarter was the Stars strongest outing of the night, holding the Lions to just two points in the first four minutes. A spark on the defensive end and execution on the offensive end helped OCU pull within two points of the Lions going into the half at the hands of a steal and lay-up from Amaya Gordon.

Oklahoma City had looked to put pressure on the Lions on the inside, scoring 20 of its 61 points in the paint. OCU freshman Jerzie Bryant ignited the Stars offense throughout the night scoring 20 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor, 4-7 from the three, and going 2-2 from the free throw line.

The Lions came out of the half putting full court pressure on the stars forcing 13 turnovers in the second half, capitalizing on that by scoring 24 points off turnovers. The Stars were ultimately unable to stop Langston's penetration as the Lions went on to score 58 points in the paint, getting to the line 31 times during the contest.

Oklahoma City dropped its second straight matchup to Langston and currently holds an overall 18-4 record over the Lions.

The Stars will be back in action for its third conference matchup this Saturday at home inside Abe Lemons Arena as they face Central Christian on Dec. 2 at 2 PM.
