OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Stars women's soccer team advance to the semifinal round for the second straight season as the Stars stellar defense holds Wayland Baptist without a shot on goal in 1-0 win over the Pioneers.

First Half      

OCU got off two quick shots from the Russell twins but neither could capitalize on the opportunity. Just a couple of minutes later OCU earned a free kick attempt as Reese Roberts lined up for the try. Roberts took the shot from 40 yards out and put it past the hand of the keeper to put the Stars on the board 1-0 in the eighth minute of play. The Stars took nine more shots for the half however could not find the net to extend their lead. Wayland Baptist was held to just three shots in the first half without any on-goal. 

 Second Half  

In the second half of play, the Stars controlled almost all of the possession taking 12 total shots and pressuring the Pioneer defense. Ashton Seratte and Reese Roberts each had shots on goal that were saved by the Wayland Baptist keeper. Late into the half, the Stars were now trying to hold on to the 1-0 lead as Wayland Baptist failed to get a shot off from the 51st minute on. Ashley Russell had one last chance to extend the Stars lead as her shot attempt went off the crossbar and her second attempt was blocked. Nevertheless, the Stars held on and survived to advance to the semifinal round. 

GAME NOTES  

• Oklahoma City took 23 shots with seven on-goal attempts. The Stars defense held Wayland Baptist to just five total shots and allowed the Pioneers to not have a single shot on goal making it the first time all season that an opponent has not taken an on-goal attempt. 
• Reese Roberts sank her sixth goal of the season on the game-winner as the freshman took four shots with three coming on goal.
• OCU advances to the Sooner Athletic Conference semifinal round for the second straight year and will be hosting a semifinal for the first time since 2018.
• The Stars take down the Pioneers for the second time this season as its previous victory came on Oct. 21. 
• The OCU defense once again powered down as the Stars earned their eighth shutout in 2023.
